Calorlite recall

Checked mine today & it is a 2008/06 one but still almost full, rang calor to ask what the recall was about & did I immediately need to return it, the girl I spoke to said that it was a purely a precaution & to return it when convenient (looks like my next few outings I'll be running on the Calor bottle before I swap it). Also will wait until after the first rush of people.

That is incorrect, i spoke to Calor this morning on their helpline 0800 783 4141 and was told that even if they are empty they will be replaced with a full one.

However, you might have to go to a full Calor Gas centre as some other dealers are trying to charge for empty ones.

I don't really blame them as the dealer gets no benefit from the exchange. They are re-stocking and distributing the bottles just for love!

they are also the ones responsible for selling shoddy goods to the customer . they dont complain when calor give them advertizing etc . and some profit for selling the bottles . cant have cake and eat it .

Who said anything about them knowingly selling shoddy goods? The problem source is with Calor, not their agents.

the law makes the seller responsible . you added knowing i didnt . but it doesnt change the law.
being an agent carries responsibilty as well. its also their choice to sell them . could have chosen flogas . etc .

Just been back to the dealer and exchanged the voucher i got for another new Calor-Lite.

I`ve now ended up with 2 new full Calor-Lites after swapping one that was empty and the other had a tiny bit in it.

Many thanks goes to rugbyken for highlighting this recall nice and early

Just picked up Percy after hab service at Davans in Weston Supermare. One full 2008 bottle and one 2011 with about a teaspoon in it.
Davans have no stock at all so will take bottle and issue a voucher.

We'll hang on to ours and hope that our local has some. Off to France in a fortnight so I hope so.

Many thanks to the Op, don't use these myself but stuck the notice on another forum.

Drove back from Pershore today via every garage, garden centre and caravan dealer on the way. Not many but none had Calor Lites in stock and offered a voucher. We said we'd rather try nearer home.
Our local garage less than a mile away had 6 in the cage. We swapped the empty one and will swap the other when we get back from France. They would only swap one at a time which seemed fair.

I'd presume Calor have cleared out the old cylinders but if you weren't too risk adverse and allowing for the fact that these bottles have been in circulation for up to 6 years. Surely the best result would be to get another "defective" bottle that you could then emty and return for a free full one?

For Those Tight Of Wad Or From Yorkshire

Now I realise Calor is not the first choice for the hardcore or high gas user but.....

Had a thought about this.
As it's not such a big safety concern that Calor are screaming their head off about this if you're going camping soon and want a Calorlite bottle especially if you use quite a bit of gas (why would use then use Calor?) Why not buy a part used or used Calorlite off ebay or Gumtree. Look at this example Calor lite 6kg caravan gas bottle | eBay A Calor bottle as deposit + it's nearly full then when used you also get a new full bottle for £15.00 or so. Not bad value if you can find a bottle for sale near you.
