Calais again.

Went out on 23 April, came back 14 May, both times Police vans parked every 100yds or so, 2 officers in each van, half the jungle gone and largish police presence in the remaining part.

All quiet on the northern front.

Don't be surprised that it's not being reported, there is a news blackout until after the Referendum.
As for the French authorities, why don't they call in the army? You don't send a boy to do a mans' job.
I'm also reading elsewhere that police are being attacked in other areas although not by migrants so obviously there's a bit of civil unrest going on, perhaps David can elucidate.....

"FRENCH police are fleeing lawless Calais"

Does anyone really believe that? I would be interested to hear from anyone who is staying or been around Calais lately as well as I spent a couple of days in that area in early December last year and Calais itself just seemed like it always was to me. Perfectly safe and business as usual.

I suppose if its turned into a war zone (Which I bet it hasnt) the French will be hoping for a ****** so they can remove the British border controls at the earliest opportunity and shift the problem over to Dover. :D

That report makes the Gendarmes sound like fairies where in reality from what I have seen they are hard as nails and flipping proud blokes with military training. And they carry Glocks ****! Sounds like a load of tosh to me.

It's definitely bordering on civil unrest here :scared:

These blooming foreigners are not playing the game fairly on these aires :mad1:

Have you noticed that reporting on the migrants trying to get here is now non existant as we get closer the the exit vote?

Perhaps a fair few ARE as 'hard as nails' but the video cup I watched on FB certainly showed a police car being attacked and set on fire with the policeman still inside, he did get out and was attacked again but the TV footage showed the car ending up in flames. certainly didn't see any Glocks being brandished either...... perhaps it was just one of those anecdotal moments.....

Might be worth noting that there are 2 'police forces' - the Police Nationale which are similar to our police and the Gendarmes which are a military force.

I went through Cherbourg yesterday and there was a large protest going on at the port, fire on the roundabout outside, and a friend travelling to Dieppe got diverted as there were burning cars on an access road to the port,i think all the ports are being hit with protesters at the moment. It didn't hold me up as they had marched into town by the time I was due at the ferry.

Thats probably more to do with the fuel blockades in parts of France against the new employment laws that the French government are trying to bulldoze through. Another little scuffle in France that the UK press seem to have missed - again

We have no need to be on the streets,we have online petitions for that.

Seemed to work ok for the folk in your adopted country a couple of hundred years ago though eh?
