That is likely the best way Trev but a lot of people don't want to face the hassle of selling private. The savings can be worth it though. I think it depends what it is. Most dealers didnt want to touch my old van so I sold it on FB market place in 24 hours. The price I got the new motorhome private was way way lower than a dealer price so win win.

We visited a MoHo show and decided to splurge on a new van. I checked the available extras and spec'ed what I was after.
I found two dealers 100 miles apart with the van in stock and visited both so they could check over my trade in.
I told them both what extras I wanted and asked how much cash they would require from me (including VAT) to buy the moho and my extras.
I said I would return only if we had a deal.
Price difference £2k (about 5%).

'Cash is King' Those days are well over in retail véhicle market, big money is in the finance for the dealership. And higher price Moho are harder to sell privately so that's where to look for the bargains, else they have to sell at a pittance to a trader. just do your checks.
Go to a dealer with at the front of your mind that he ain’t your mate, he will say anything to strip you of your cash, the warranty will be worthless, and he’ll do everything possible NOT to honour any agreement. Be specially careful if you deal with one large group, I mustn’t name, who do NOT play by the Queensbury rules I’m not their friend as I fought them and won, big time. In fact the MH I returned to them as falsely described is still being advertised for sale 15 months later. It won’t sell now it has to be described correctly.
