Hi

I looking to purchase a new motorhome, can anyone give me problem areas to look at with a Burstner 747 on a fiat

Many thanks
Dave

We have a 2006 Burstner Argos 747-2. I've had it for three years and I haven't had any problems with it so far (touch wood!). I spent a long time researching and looking at numerous motorhomes before I settled on the Argos. The main reasons I picked it were the layout with large fixed beds at opposite ends to give us a bit of space from the kids and the lounge and kitchen in the middle, the large living space, decent sized separate shower cubicle, lots of internal storage cupboards, and the massive garage and underfloor storage lockers.

I've done less than 5,000 miles per year since we got it, but I have a mechanical and habitation service done each year. I had to get the clutch replaced at about 40,000 miles, but that has been the only mechanical issue. Reversing light bulbs seem to burn out quickly so I am having the light fitting replaced before the next MOT. Anything else have been consumables like brakes and tyres.

The only negatives I have found aren't anything major; the gas cupboard is only big enough for 6kg bottles and there weren't enough 12v or 240v sockets for my liking.

Since buying the van I have made a few enhancements to make life easier. I had a solar panel fitted which is very useful to keep two habitation batteries fully charged. I had an inverter fitted but we rarely need to use it. I have had extra 12v & 240v sockets fitted in the underfloor lockers (mainly to run cool boxes), and either end of the overcab bed for the kids to charge their various devices, and I have had extra 240v sockets fitted in the living areas on both the EHU and Inverter circuits. I have bought two large Endless Breeze 12v fans for this summer but haven't used them yet. I am still thinking about installing a refillable gas system and an external barbeque point, and if money was no object I would fit a satellite dome and aircon.

The Argos is fully winterised and I think the coldest we have experienced was -10 but we were perfectly comfortable.

Overall, I am very happy with our motorhome. In fact, I didn't want to get one but gave in to the wife and kids 3 years ago, but I was soon converted, so much so that two weeks ago we spent our 200th night away in it. Not bad for 3 years?

I think the Argos was updated in 2007 or 2008, and again last year, so if you are getting one of these newer models they are very luxurious.

If you have any question about the Argos, feel free to get in touch. I hope you find what you're looking for. Enjoy.

Thank you for your reply,

I am now the happy owner of a Burstner Argos 747-2, we have spent a couple of nights in it already, and are looking forward to some great trips away.

The layout and space is a step in the right direction, for my wife and I and our four kids.

Happy Travels

Dave
