Broken butterfly vent

It might be the pins have fallen out.

On mine the spring fits into the hole on the flap and then you have to put the end with a pin into the groove around the inside of the actual vent and then compress the spring and put that in the groove, there's no way you would be able to get it into the groove if the flap had two pins

Exactly, but the spring is very light, and is held in with a plastic pin.
