I was gonna post a question about Brittany Ferries - my van 6.3m long - do you reckon I could get away with describing it as 6m, cos apparently you have to call specially for >6.
The other question I had was is there any way you can stay in the van for the crossing? Looks like the dog has to stay in the van so I might as well too if I can.

When you arrive and book in they have a very good idea how long your van is from markings on their canopy I've seen them come out of booth to measure vans if their over length their sent back and allowed to board last if theres room so I'd not risk it as for sleeping in the van its not allowed never knew anyone who has done it or wanted to if you do let us know what it was likeI was gonna post a question about Brittany Ferries - my van 6.3m long - do you reckon I could get away with describing it as 6m,

Can't comment re Spain, but for France the bike rack is not part of the length. Bike rack is a separate element in the booking, for which there is an extra charge.I can only comment on the Ferries UK / Spain
1) I've never called, just booked on line -7.5 m plus 2.5m trailer
2) They have lines painted on the tarmac at check in and quickly check the length. Do NOT understate, they charge extra if you do. Remember a bike rack or tow bar are part of the length.
3) Staying is MoHo is not allowed, the vehicle deck is behind closed doors during the voyage. I had to get medication from the van during one trip. The purser gave me permission to collect it but warned me that in the event of a incident I would be sealed on the vehicle deck even if that deck was being flooded. I was escorted there by a crew member who repeated the warning and said his job was to prioritise the safety of the remaining passengers irrespective of my well being.
4) The ships I have sailed on had dog friendly cabins and kennels. Dogs were not allowed to stay in MoHos.
Maybe worthwhile re reading BF documentation or contacting them.
Doesn't work with my vehicle reg! When you enter your vehicle reg the vehicle details appear including manufacturers specified dimensions. External rear carriers are charged extra. Vehicle fees are based on these figures. No need to manually enter length or height of vehicle.
You have to book through the Brittany Ferries website as a Club Voyage member which does all this based on vehicle reg.
Only works with commercial vans i.e LWB Transits etc (and according to Mark61 not that well) with an A class you have to fill it in manually. When you enter your vehicle reg the vehicle details appear including manufacturers specified dimensions. How did you manage that?£15 fee for the rear bike rack on 3rd Feb Santander to Portsmouth sailing
Steve
We are 5.99m M/Home, below 3m height, and the attached rear bike rack incurred a £15 surcharge, which the fare auttomatically generated. Didn't realise until I saw the invoice, because the online total price was quoted at £747.50How did you manage that?
They always quote me £45.
