Brit Stops?

I bought the book for 3 years but didn't get it again this year. I decided it wasn't worth it for the amount of nights I'd used it and I always use the pub/farm shop or whatever anyway so no saving. I found a lot of the stops were also listed either on the WC PoIs or on other online resources and whilst it was handy having the book readily to hand when out and about, it isn't difficult to use the internet on my phone to look for places to stay.

I think really it has been overtaken by technology, it would have been useful 20 - 30 years ago (long before it came out).

At the very least Licencees are risking there licence in England and Wales at least with our licensing laws either hard up or ignorant of the laws

Brite stops aren't bothered not them that lose the licence, I also note Bugsworth basin got caught out after a complaint by a disgruntled local and I have not one shred of evidence any motorhomer assisted in their defence the were left to hang.

I would organise a pub meet once in a while but an overnight stop on an adhoc basis no way. There again I would expect customers to show a little custom rather than use and disappear which from these hallowed pages happens often

Ref first line... How come?

Thinking of trying brit-stops for a year. I've stopped over at pub carparks (both from the WC POI and just going in to ask) more than any other place and find them very handy. Not really a pub goer TBH, but I don't think I could do so without at least getting a couple of drinks there. Wouldn't be right!

All licence applications must comply with four licensing objectives including:
•the prevention of crime and disorder
•public safety
•the prevention of public nuisance
•the protection of children from harm

The law is very non descriptive but the main concern would be the prevention of public nuisance and possibly preventing crime and disorder if the visitors were to fall out unsupervised in the car park

Public nuisance is given a statutory meaning in many pieces of legislation. It is, however, not narrowly defined in the Licensing Act 2003 and retains its broad common law meaning. The issues mainly concern noise nuisance, light pollution, noxious smells and litter. Neighbours loud at closing time engines starting all hours noisy air con units and chillers in the pub itself the last two experience of

Bugsworth allowed visitors for years then a local complained I suspect the third clause would have been the argument

Interesting to note it is nothing to do with the retailing of alcohol but the broad brush of the licensing objectives

Just back after 4 weeks (more about which elsewhere) stopping mainly at BS (are we allowed to say the full thing now?) places, most expensive night was about £35 - a really excellent dinner and drinks for two but typically it was about £20 - one place had steak and chips at £5 per head another had a huge gammon eggs and chips for £7 and in some places (farm shops) we spent less tha a fiver

Yes £20 puts you firmly within CL territory but when at a CL you still have to eat - Tesco meal deal (main course and dessert with a bottle) is £10.
then again some of the carparks promoted on this site charge £9+ per night and offer absolutely nothing - not even the chance to have a drink or a meal

BS places are not allowed by the rules of the scheme to insist that you make a purchase, its a numbers game over the course of a year say 100 motor homes stop most of them will be well mannered enough to spend a few quid although not all will - I was talking to one 'host' who withdrew from the scheme because people would phone asking for the gate code for the carpark arrive after hours and be gone before the shop opened in the morning another stopped offering a free EHU after too many people accepted the offer and hadnt the manners to enter his establishment and spend a few quid. I often feel sorry for farm shops some of whom offer excellnt facilities but in which it is almost impossible to spend more than a couple of pounds

Regular readers will already know that I am a huge fan of BS they are of course a mixed bag some being excellent other being little more that adequate - yes you can simply turn up at a pub or farm shop and ask but its not only embarrassing to be refused it also leaves you 'homeless' - Im not very fussy as to where I park but I do like to know that I have some where to go to. On one occasion we were turned away from a BS place (my fault I should have rang ) and it was disquieting not to have some where to park.

We were members of France Passion at one time, we always felt obliged to buy stuff even if we did not want too really, same with Brit stops I guess . also Pub stops too, we are not members of any of them , but we get around a lot with no problems, we will use the CCC facilities , CLs rallies etc as a first choice every time where practical .

Some years ago I was in a similar group called 'Ars Vivendi' it was a Belgian scheme especially useful as I have Belgian relatives. I found that the membership was useless as whenever I turned up the owners/managers welcome us a requested nothing in return.
