Bring back any memories?

Grocery boy collecting orders for the store and then they were delivered by horse and cart. (It was me - I later got a ford Thames van)

Sliding down the pitheap. Scree Running on the same heaps.

Jumping off the top of the quary into the heather to break your fall.

Setting camp fires on the fell and then them getting out of control.

29 seater Bedford OB Duple "utility" busses with wooden seats.

Trams in Newcastle and Gateshead running beside the Trolly Busses. First Diesel Busses in Newcastle (very noisy).

Travelling shops by Sturdyluxe on Ford 4D operated by the local co-op going door-to-door.

Walking over 20ft snow drifts to get to work.
Walking over a bus in a drift and not knowing it was there until I saw the destination board. Sat inside to get my breath back before continuing walking.

Being the rider of a motorbike geting over 20ft snow drifts by walking it over the drifts under power then riding to the next drift. Only vehicle in or out of the village for 3 weeks. 3ft of packed ice on the road when it began to melt.

Ice on the mirror in my bedroom. The bed was between the mirror and the outside wall.

Cailey Tray chocolate bars (now the only place you can see them is in the shop in Beamish Muesum)

Sturmey-Archer 3 speed hub gears on my bike with a hub dynamo and mudguards and lights, which also ran on 4 D cell batteries.

Loose Sugar and other goods put into bags by shop assistants. Butter barrel on the counter. Bacon sliced as you watched as thick as you wanted. Bacon that didn't leave a white sludge in the pan.

Petrol/Parafin farm tractors left in the field ready for work next day.

Lengthsmen walking and maintaining there section of road. No litter in those days. Ditches that took away water in wet weather.

Sitting on top of the big wheel that the cable went around on the incline plane between White-le-head (Tanfield Moor Colliery) and East Tanfield. Loaded trucks going down, pulled the empty ones back up to the pit.
