Although I've always tended to get breakdown insurance is it necessary on a new van, previously it was included with no option not to have it & it was still the cheapest? The van is a Fiat Ducato Elddis conversion so is the Fiat camper assistance good enough, has anybody had to use the Fiat roadside assistance?

I've used them . In Italy , France and England .
Excellent service . Expires April , will take out breakdown cover then . I wouldn't see any need while you are eligible for their service

That doesn't sound like a good advertisement for Fiat Ducato's

To be fair mirror got whacked in France . Didn't notice windscreen got small crack at same time hence windscreen in Italy .
Problem in England was the battery which had also happened with previous van . One off never happened again .

Fiat Camper Assist is an excellent service, no need for anything else and is covered for 2 or 3 years depending where the vehicle (which country) was first delivered. But make sure you ring the breakdown number once you have the van and check your chassis number is registered with them. If it’s not they ask you to email a copy of the V5 and they then add it on. I know this part through experience.

Yes Fiat breakdown are excellent, have not had to use them but have contacted them three or four times for advice.
They helped me find a fiat dealer to get the backlight working on the dash when the lights were off.

And if the vehicle is registered in the UK you get three years cover, elsewhere it's only two.

As the others have said, no need to set up any other cover.
