Green Flag, who we are with, do not cover the Republic of Ireland. Has anyone any suggestions please? TIA.

Thanks TJBi, weren't told about this, just told to try Red Pennant who we gave up on having been on hold for so long.

Nationwide Flexplus account provides breakdown cover through the AA.
Motorhomes up to 7.5 tons.

Section D: Vehicle Specifications
Breakdown assistance is only available for cars, light van, campervan, motor caravan, minibus,
trailer, motorhomes, vans, minibuses or motorcycles (including quads and trikes) which meet the
specifications set out below.
Please note that “car, van, minibus or motorcycle” does not include, amongst other things, electric
pavement vehicles, electrical wheelchairs, bicycles (including electric bicycles), any vehicle which
cannot lawfully be used on the public highway and/or any non-motorised vehicle.
• Maximum Vehicle Weight: 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg) gross vehicle weight
• Maximum Vehicle Weight for Motorhomes ONLY: 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight
• Maximum Vehicle Width: 8ft 3in (2.55m) which constitutes the overall width of the vehicle
bodywork excluding mirrors, measured at the widest points.
*These dimensions will be calculated taking into account anything attached to your vehicle and any
trailer or caravan, including but not limited to towing equipment, any carriers or racks (e.g. bike or
luggage), or anything else attached to the vehicle or the carriers/racks.

Just found this bit which also mentions length of vehicle.

Vehicles must not exceed any of the following dimensions:
  • Maximum vehicle weight: 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg) gross vehicle weight
  • Maximum vehicle weight for motorhomes: 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight
  • Maximum vehicle width: 2.55 metres (8ft 3in). This must make up the overall width of the vehicle bodywork excluding mirrors, measured at the widest points.
  • Maximum vehicle length (in Europe only): 8 metres (23ft)

I was in the aa for 20 odd years, they do not cover vans over 3.5t
Both the AA and RAC will cover over 3.5t, but only when they want to, so as a individual without membership of some kind of club or scheme you might not get cover, but via bank schemes or (in case of RAC) C&CC they will provide cover.

Not what they told me, hence iv left the club.

Well, we have been and are home. Took out insurance through Red Pennant, Caravan Club at a price. In the end, well worth £160 as we broke down! High pressure line on the power steering completely corroded, no parts available to enable us to continue our holiday. The van has been left in Crossmolina, County Mayo, in a garage where a fantastic mechanic is trying to fix it. We had a taxi back to Larne (5.5 hours) and a taxi from Cairnryan to home (25 mins.) Now we await an outcome with the motorhome.

If it's the line going through a cooler why not just bypass the cooler ? Had a similar thing happen on a Mercedes.
