Or what ever they're called, We've off for two weeks in two weeks not sure how good this cars battery will be when we get back, Fiesta could be bumped off down the hill but this is an auto EV so not sure what the best thing is to ensure we can move it off the drive when we get back, even more so next year when we're off for 6-7 weeks into Europe.

Any recommendations of something you have actually bought and used preferably?

Cheap is good but something that will work to fire the MG up is better.

I just whip off the negative battery terminal on the Hyundai Kev. Not sure if this might cause issues on some modern vehicles.

Biggest problem I find with Hyundai's which are clearly built to a budget is I often have issues with the brakes and calipers after leaving it stood for months despite leaving the handbrake off.

Not sure that's a good idea on this thing, it is packed with tech that might need an expensive visit to the dealers, it also has the EV battery too.

I had a 20w one once Jim and it did nothing, I'm ringing the dealer tomorrow as there are two batteries so a bit more complex, both new of course so hopefully not so vulnerable, the Hybrid EV battery is a lithium I expect so I need to know how to treat that as well, and on top of that the back windows are all tinted so I suppose I'll need to turn the car round but the front is so low it scrapes so would rather not

I have one of these

It even started the van with a completely flat battery,

I missed that it was an electric vehicle Kev. Presumably it's quite new then. Speak to the dealer. Maybe they can be shut down or something. Cant you just leave it plugged in on the drive? I know nothing of these new fangled cars! 😁

Wait a minute! Am I missing something? How would you jump start an EV anyway?

Thanks Terry, that & Jims idea give me two options, I like both and both give me options for the van and the car

Yup, I did a thread on it here.

It's a "self-charging Hybrid" we've never had a new car and the Fiesta was bit like you, knackered.

I'm just getting options right now Barry, I like to get ahead of the game as you know.

An EV has two batteries. The traction battery is the big one that you change via Chademo / type 2/ etc.
There is also a small convention 12v battery. If this 12v battery is flat the vehicle will not "boot up" and will not run.
The 12v powers a few circuits (Alarm; monitors) when the vehicle is parked.

Advice (based on my experience with having a flat battery on my EV).

Before going away.
Ensure that you have at least 80% range.
Charge the 12v battery using a battery charger.

On Returning, if the car doesn't start
Charge the 12v battery using a battery charger.
Call the AA/RAC if you have home cover.
Or, if you need the vehicle immediately use jump leads onto the 12v battery, and leave on for 10 minutes.
If you had flat battery when vehicle powers up leave the "ignition" on and the vehicle in "park" for 10 minutes.

It's a Hybrid, so a bit different, I'm still learning stuff on it yet

Ooooh!!!! Nice. A new MG! 😁

I can't help then but I think you knew that. If there is a thread about how to deal with old bangers when away then my "just disconnect the battery" advice could be useful. 🤣 I liked it better when stuff was simple.

See what the dealer says Kev, it’s only the engine battery that you would need to do anything with, it will just run on the petrol engine if power is too low on traction battery.
Don’t think you should have a big problem if engine battery goes flat though. Mine has a hidden key built into the fob that you can open the doors if you lose 12V power. My battery has never gone flat but it has locked out all electrics twice since I have had it. Simple job to get in and push reset button once you know where to find a keyhole for the emergency key lol

I'm tempted as it on sale now as it the 2k one.

but before I go that way Terry, how long do they last off charge? could it be used as a maintainer as well as a booster, as I'd rather it didn't go flat at all hence why I like Jims idea could do both I suppose.
No it can't be used as a maintainer unfortunately, if the engine will not turn over you connect it up and press a little button on the side, when you turn the key again it starts the engine, I needed it for my Panda because it didn't like being left for many weeks (parasitic draw), I have never needed it for Maggy's Fiat500 even when that has been left for three months, but I personally think they are worth carrying for peace of mind
