Blender for the van.

We do a lot of home made soup, (by 'we' I mean Julie does. I just like to eat it).

She would also like to do this in the van when we are away, so to make life easier, I have been looking for a low voltage blender, so far I have only found this one, which plugs into a USB socket;

It is fairly low capacity, so would have to be done in small batches, but that's no real problem.

Very thoughtful of them to remind you to remove 'Nuclear material' in the instructions for use, I thought! :D

Any thoughts?

This may be great at chopping soft fruits but you may find it will struggle with veg 🥕 potatoes 🥔 turnips and onions.🍠🌽

You're right Annie.

Julie just had a look and told me it looks cheap and nasty.

She also told me not to buy anything without consulting her first! :sad:
 
Soup

No need for a blender !
Just use a big sharp knife on a chopping board (assuming Julie is safe with one).
So Mushrooms Onions etc
For carrots use a potato peeler first then chop.
Fry up the veg in a small saucepan (using butter if you like)
Various seasonings
Finally a cheapo "cupasoup"
On their own these are no good but they are useful as a sound base
We often do this at lunchtime quick easy and tasty with bread if you like

NO MORE CLUTTER !
 
Like the way it separates for cleaning. I'm not much clued up on the electrical bit.

I have heard that things use more power on startup.

Given the cost, I would get it anyway, i've got a similar one and it's great. I use mine to make smoothies too.
 
Bought one about six months ago, unfortunately it broke a few days ago, I think I can fix it though, whatever holds the mini USB thingy in place has broken so it's flopping about inside. First I'm going to look through my cables to see if I have one which is full size USB both sides, as the is a full size USB as well on it.

Until then, I was quite impressed with it, mainly because it looks and feels so flimsy you wonder how it works at all, but it does, works well too, or rather did. Yes, it only copes with small batches.

Would I buy another? Not sure, probably if I can't fix mine.

It's a great idea, shame there isn't a quality one available for about £20 though, :)

Unfortunately, Julie has a few medical conditions which leave her very weak, and she can get exhausted by even very minor tasks.

That would mean that I would have to do the chopping, and that wouldn't do at all!

Actually, stuff would still have to be chopped before going into a blender, so I will probably get collared anyway!

Yeah, it's 200W Sue, so I'm hoping that 300W might handle the startup, but I could be wrong.
 
We like proper home made soup, I bought one of these for chopping the veg small
OXO Good Grips Vegetable Chopper

This chops everything a small uniform size for quicker cooking and is easy to use, we then either have chunky soup or use a stick blender similar to the one on your link, it works on our cheap 300w inverter ok

I like that Terry.

I didn't intend spending as much as £20 on her Xmas present, but I suppose I could make it a combined Xmas/birthday gift. :)
