Afternoon all. Before you all scroll past, this isn't the usual question 😁.

I don't really want to go up to 16" or alloys but after grounding out the rear of Burstner Solano T 615, and very nearly getting stuck going into a carpark that didn't look like it was going to be a problem. I'm wondering if going to 16" would make much difference to the rear ground clearance to make it worth while doing? I don't want to mess up the gearing, Speedo reading etc. Comments welcome 🙂👍

Bit of an expensive way of doing it but air assist suspension would help a lot and give a much nicer ride and you would use the same wheels and tyres.

Mine would ground out ( thankfully the towbar bracket took the hits ) at the slightest hint of an incline such as going into fuel stations but after the air assist suspension was fitted it lifted the rear end enoungh to stop it happenning.

I've fitted air ride air suspension to the rear of my hymer a class
Difference is unreal ,in high winds I have two stands that I drop pressure and sit the van on them
Going onto ferry's raise up saving any grounding out
Passing Lorrie's etc sway greatly reduced
Can level on slopes etc
Drain tanks to max
For me it's a no brainer ,good spend imho
Hope this helps

Think I paid £300 for the kit of a seller in Newcastle area of e bay he bought and never used brand new in box
I fitted compressor in garage and only woks when van hab power on a few hours to install
Hoi Richard were you leaning over my shoulder 😁was it air ride you used think you done your one last year?

I presume your on a boxer chassis going by the photo in your avatar
I just looked on google and on a boxer they're around £200 300£ mark

We also have a Burstner T6156. We also used to keep grounding. Luckly we have a tow bar on it that took the brunt of it. So we had air rides fitted and since then we have had no problems. We keep it inflated to about 40 pressure.

Thank you, we have some sort of black bar across the back that seems to be saving us from body work damage, but I think the air suspension is the way forward for us. 🙂👍

What does it cost to get a garage to fit it - with or without discount? Ours is a Bailey with an alko chassis.

Well, looks like I'll have to start saving again then. Does anyone mind sharing roughly what they paid?
I paid around £1400 last September for VB semi-air suspension Comfort Kit, including fitting with digital remote control that shows the current pressures on each side of the M/Home and controls the footwell mounted compressor when changes are needed. The bill included fitting, and, as Gordon @The laird says, the difference/convenience is an eye-opener. The installation was undertaken by Logan Vehicle Services, so there should now be a 10% Member's Discount ...
