Hi there, I'm planning on renting a vehicle over the summer for a week to go around Scotland. Ideally something quite mobile and nimble that can travel along smaller country roads with ease. As long as it can sleep three people that is also fine. Does anyone have any experience with this or anything they would recommend? Feel free to let me know about vehicles you have used and where you have rented them from, any info would be greatly appreciated!

Panel van conversion would seem the obvious choice.

That said there are so many shapes and sizes of camper these days just pick one to suit.

Also, if you're going around the wilder bits of Scotland the unwritten rule seems to be the more off-road capable a vehicle is, the less the driver will be prepared to put in anywhere near a verge. So be prepared to take it up a verge or three so that the plethora of stormtroopers on BMW GSs and shiny shiny rangerovers can stay on the grey stuff.

We did a bit of Scotland in our van conversion without too many problems but if you are thinking about going along farm tracks and the like, make sure you have mats, spade and a winch with you as they can dig themselves in on a concrete car park. :) Always park on mats on even slightly soft ground.

Sorry but never hired a van so cannot help with that.
