Hi all

Took delivery of our new van today - chuffed to bits!

Last van we had a cello tv with dvd but sound was rubbish and unless directly information picture faded.

What do you recommend?

Thanks

Avtex not cheap but you get what you pay for, the viewing angle is superb unlike a lot of the cheaper ones where you have to sit in a direct line to the screen to get a good view of the picture

We have Avtex but the sound isnt good, we have to attach usb speakers to improve it.

Avtex

Avtex the aftersale back up is very good.they will pick up the tv from your house and repair it free if still under warranty.picture very good

Sound

Are the latest Avtex poor on sound...they are best on most fronts but their low wattage consumption not much good if you need additional speakers to hear the damn thing LOL 😂 Maja

Avtex here too. 2017 model. L188DRS.
Sound seems ok to us. Lots of connection options.
If using films stored on a USB stick it seems a bit picky about what format it will play, easily sorted, on the to do list.

I use a 'visual innovations' (no Ive never heard of them either) it is a cheapo TV/DVD combo chosen because it was 1) cheap 2) 12v and 3) supposed to be 2amp I expected not to last but it has (despite being plugged directly into leisure battery with no regulator) like many small TVs the sound isnt great but I bought an external speaker for it (cheap) and that sorted that. it doesnt have the best angle of view in the world but Im in a small M/home so where ever you sit you are always pretty much straight on!

having seen the price of Avtex the performance would need to be outstanding before I would consider one - and from what Ive read it isnt.

BTW my speaker rechargeable, I charge them when Im driving so no drain on the leisure battery

Another vote for Avtex.
My present Avtex with built in sat receiver has far superior sound to the 2013 model I had which I also had speakers rigged up to.
I can only assume they changed / updated the speakers in my latest model.

WE have an avtex and find it very good, far better than most cheap sets. We have also had a Cello and for the money it was fine and I would have no problems buying another if I needed it.

Avtex have a reputation that suggest it is the best but you can still enjoy TV with a cheaper model, I have a 22" Bush TV and play the sound through my vans stereo, I don't need more than this, there is a good TV for sale here

None at all ... I like the peace and quiet.

It's not the volume that's the problem on our `damn thing LOL`, (not the latest model, admittedly) it's the quality of sound.

I think sound quality on all TVs isnt what its used to be, flatscreen crammed within a wafer thin casing does not make for good sound quality - not like the big substantial casings on old style TVs.

In the house I have a high up the range 50 inch and the sound quality on that is miserable - rectified with a Sony sound bar.

I think that you pretty much have to bite the bullet these days and buy an external active speaker - even a cheap one is likely to be an improvement on the standard speaker

My experience with televisions in the van is, it depends on the viewing angle, if you can watch the tv from directly in front of it then most 12v tv's will do the job perfectly well. If like us we sit to the side of the tv and what makes it worse is one of us is one side and the other opposite, then the viewing angle becomes important and we have found the Avtex is perfect in this situation.

I have noticed that the 18.5 inch Avtex is only HD ready whilst the 21.5 inch version is full HD, is the reason for this the amount of pixels on a smaller screen is less important?

Same here. I bought a 19" one for the van (with DVD) for £79.99, liked it enough to buy a 22" (with DVD),£89.99 for the Kitchen at home.

True to a point. Picture quality can still be poor, we have two sets in the van and even in the best pisition the cheap one is not nearly as good. Also the cheap set does not have as sensitive a receiver.
