Best time of the year to travel europe

I am planning a trip around Europe and would like to know other peoples thoughts of what time of
year to travel in a motorhome would be ??????
 
I found no real issues outside the uk school holidays and possibly the first two weeks of July and September, August a deff no no.
 
It depends what you like and your facilities. Winter many places get more snow than us. Summer many parts of Europe can reach 40! My choice would be out of season, March to June, or September to October-stretching to November if you head south. Not done it in my van but back packed around.

Agree with above, definitely out of school holidays. Tried going south in January but found it very cold until reaching Spain; wouldn't think of going until late February now. All visits we've made have been within periods above.

hi.
well up north in summer . spring in middle europe if you like warmth then almost anywhere in summer . italy greece etc in autumn . or spring . southern spain portugal in winter .
or go to morocco in winter . best is mid december till mid march .

takes a few attempts to do it all. but that should keep you busy.
i say look at a good atlas the shows the latitude lines . in winter the lower you can get to the equator the better.
 
I think in the same way......
we spend mid Dec till beginning of March at home in the north. Mar till mid June which is the beginning of the holiday season we spent in the south, Balkan and Greece is our favorite cause it is not so overcrowded with tourists.
The summer period is ok north of the Alpes and Pyrenees, however, central Europe is full of MHs and "holiday makers" then. So we prefer to go east, Poland and Baltics are not so overcrowded with tourists, many empty places, warm to hot temperature in June till August and absolutely friendly, clean and safe.
And in Sep via Austria which is lovely in Sep back to the south till mid Dec.
Winter period down south is really ok for northern people, but could be a little wet and windy and the daylight is short. And for us 2 - 3 months northern winter in a warm stone house is ok after 9 sunny months .

We've not long come back from Spain. We left UK at the beginning of May and got back mid June. Before we left I felt that we had left it too late in the summer to be heading for Spain - and I was sort of right, in that the over nights we stayed at were definitely starting to fill up by the end of our 5 weeks. To begin with, in the first weeks as we trundled down south most places were empty, even the occasional campsites we stayed at were almost empty, but as the weeks went on and we got into June suddenly we were finding that we had company! So I definitely would not be going anywhere near southern Spain from June onwards in a MH. Nor would I be going anywhere near Morocco at any time unless you like the idea of kids climbing on your roof trying to rip your roof vents off at every set of traffic lights.
Like others on here have said, stay north in the summer months and south in the winter. And do avoid school hols for the country you are visiting, and August is a no no.

well , we have done it , took us 13 years travelling 6 months each year

how long each trip ? you will need at least 6 months for the british isles to begin with

Hi,

We cross the channel about the 4th September for two to three months,sometimes down the west coast but last year down the east side of France to the Med then along towards Spain.The roads are no busy at this time and we don't book anything and use Aires where possible except on Motorways.Not sure which way to head this year that will depend on where the sun is shining.

I should add that our total cost for motorway tolls was about €6, and this was only because I made 2 mistakes on slip roads, once in France and once in Spain. We just got off at the next exit, which in both cases, fortunately, was only a kilometre or so.
 
As others have said it would depend where you are going, for us southern Europe would be far too hot in the summer, we have done Germany during the summer months & had a great time but even the south of Germany was a bit hot some days.
 
winter its best in southern spain portugal or morocco.
you will find there is no more risk of breakins than in spain france uk or even germany .
if you want an adventure get over there its catching up quickly and will soon be infront of many eu countries .
 
no . morocco is catching up. probably in front of france already . lots of high tec engineering and big plants going on . be kicking germany and holland in the arse soon . beats portugal .spain etc already .
but there is still a slight third world chatm to be had . but its not the same with brand new trucks cars and m,bikes going around . every year there is like 5 years improvement in the eu.

I travelled through france from January to april last year. I went mainly towards the Southwest from Calais - most of the free inland Aires were deserted just a few elderly French around in their "camping cars" however the costal Aires below Bordeaux were quite busy with Dutch, German & even Swedish motor homers. I always found a good spot but you do have to pay at a few of the costal aires even in the winter.
