Best phone deals now Plusnet Mobile is closing

Popit say despite using EE APN settings I would still need a VPN.
Has anybody used Popit abroad?

Any recommendations for VPN that works well with iPhone, Netflix and IPlayer? Most of the free ones seem to be for android.

Probably go for 100gb Popit SIM with Cyberghost VPN. Still a bit uncertain though how Netflix clampdown on sharing and travel will work out in practice.

We have been on virgin unlimited date fir years ,but its just become o2 ..
Never been charge in eu for being over the far usage policy. I bet that's changed now its o2.
I gave them a call and got unlimited eveything for £18 a month.Like you I got 100 gig for £16 before 02 took over it's now 25 gig fair usage

I have been in Ireland for the last 3 weeks with a popit sim, which has been roaming its little sim socks off, in the permanently switched on mifi. I think that counts as abroad! We have been streaming without problem iplayer, my5, and 4 with the default popit settings. I can understand though that subscription services like Netflix would need vpn.

Just moved the wife over to O2 from Plusnet through MoneySupermarket.

30 day contract, 40GB for £10 per month including 25GB EU roaming.
Yes, it looked promising until I read this on O2 website

Using our services in our Europe Zone for more than 63 days in any four-month period is what we consider to be unfair use. If you do this we’ll send you a fair usage notification by text. If you continue to use these services after we’ve notified you, we’ll apply surcharges for further usage that we recognise as overage.

We do 2x90 days, so could be a problem for us if they actually enforce it.

We only go away for 28 days at a time and do 3 evenly spaced trips throughout the year abroad so that will not affect her.

I should have mentioned that, sorry.

We’ve settled on Popit, up and running. Anyone used Cyberghost VPN with Netflix, IPlayer, Amazon Prime?

I looked at RWG. In principle looks good, but it has some terrible reviews, more bad than good. Where it works first time it seems ok but when it doesn’t customer service seems virtually non existent.
We have moved most of our phones and tablets to RWG, one by one. They are a virtual network on Now mobile, which in turn is a virtual on EE. The coverage is good, the prices unbeatable. At one time there was no 5G but that's fixed now.

Look out for their special offers. Some are excellent.

As far as I can make out, RWG support is a very small setup so they can sometimes be very slow, other times really quick. You can never phone their support, though. Not sure why they publish a number.

RWG isn't a tiny setup, though. They contacted me about a joint venture* and the person I spoke to was in Denmark, but they have businesses in the US as well.

*It wasn't something I wanted to do.

Currently in France and Popit sim has been fine. Allows easy switching ti find best network. The sim is installed in my iPhone which uses a Bitdefender VPN, the iPad tethers without any problem and iPlayer works fine, can't comment on Netflix.

It seems I spoke too soon. After writing the above we moved to SE Ireland for a few days and one by one iplayer, 4, itvx and, lastly my5 stopped working. Now back in the UK, it's all working again immediately.

Thats because once you cross the state line you go back 100 years in a time warp. 😂

We used Popit Mobile in France & Spain last month and had the 100GB plan (not that we needed to use it all but it was nice to have the option!) We've been using it over this the BH weekend in Scotland and it worked just as well. Looking to pause it for £1.00 a month from next month until we go away again.

We’ve had good deals and service from Plusnet for our phones and mifi, but we have learned BT are closing it down soon. So we need to change sharpish before we go away.

Can I ask what people reckon are the best deals at the moment? We travel in EU for 90 day periods, so need good roaming allowances, without onerous fair-usage penalties, and a service that works well in remote Scottish areas. Definitely not Vodaphone after the way they treated us previously. We also need one that gives a UK IP address so can continue to use IPlayer and Netflix.
I was with Plusnet too but have moved to Lebara which enabled me to use data and call time in Europe as normal (free roaming). Whilst here in the uk, I also have 100 minutes international call time. Best deal was through a price comparison site not Lebara directl!

I got a good Lebara deal via the moneysavingexpert website. It is free to join and the weekly newsletter has the best current deals.

I was on Plusnet £10 month unlimited calls, texts, 25gb data, that recently went up to £11.40. When I was notified that Plusnet would be dealing with business broadband and EE would take over mobile I took the offer to move to EE for £12, but with 20gb data because EE have the best overall coverage, hence used be emergency services, in the remoter parts of Scotland, where I sometimes travel.
I can't comment on EU roaming.
2 advantages over Plusnet are they cover more of Scotland as they reserve a frequency for EE customers not given to the companies that piggyback onto their network, parts of Ulapool are an example.
The other advantage is you can use short codes in SMS, which Plusnet didn't support.
