Best Mobile Broadband

3 don't always allow tethering. I used to get it on my contract & then it was disabled - they told me it shouldn't have been allowed in the first place, but I think the added the restriction to the contract later. Sadly I couldn't prove it.

Yes that's correct, just spoke to the guy and he said they only allowed it on this one contract. Also, if the reception is good enough I could ditch my land line and run everything via my phone. (unlikely to be good enough in my area but will see)

I got the impression that people have been getting "all you can eat data" on a monthly contract & then using it instead of WiFi with a laptop at home. Lots of people don't have a fixed phone these days so the cost of Wifi becomes quite high when you add in the landline rental cost. 30 quid a month for a smartphone, calls & data looks good against a landline & broadband connection. On a payg sim you are paying for what you use, so they gain if you use it a lot.
I wouldn't argue with that, like anything that is offered there are people that push the boundaries and spoil it for the rest, my Wife refuses to step into the World of Smart Phones and loves her Sony Ericsson K800i, it doesn't support tethering so I swap sims and use her sim to tether with my Samsung Galaxy, I can use it a lot and there is no problem so I still think it is strange, they should allow tethering with restrictions then at least we know where we stand
