Just been catching up with the Channel 5 show Bargain-Loving Brits in the Sun.

Please tell me that the characters on the show are actors and especially the ones on the campsites that feature on the program ?

The ones in the bars etc. are bad enough but ...............

It seems to be reasonable representation of what I have seen there. In the summer usually.

We had a cheap and cheerful couple of weeks on Camping Benidorm in November-nothing like the programme, but probably would be in Summer - it was fine. If you can't walk far, it's very handy as there is a bus stop just outside the gate. The bus fare is €1.50 no matter where you travel on route between Benidorm near the Old Town and Altea. Takes in Alfas de Pi and Albir.
We were shown round Camping Vilamar by a friend - much more expensive, better facilities etc but a long way to walk to get away from the place!!! which is what I would have wanted to do.

Definitely not actors!!!!

Actors? Surely not, you couldn't make the storyline up if you tried!! Just watched the last episode, and after spending years of living and holdaying in Spain myself, it has reminded me how very very bad the Spanish Costas really are.

I`ve never been and after watching the program i don`t think i ever will :scared:

The only reason i`m watching the series is because there`s quite a few on here who go down there and i`ve seen the names of the campsites mentioned on here.

Don't be put off Wooie1958, the whole of Spain is not like the Costas, there are still some beatifully untouched areas inland. You only need to go a a few Km's inland from the coast to begin to find out that a real Spain still exist.

Hi Wooie,

We stayed just outside Benidorm at Cap Blanc Altea for a month over Christmas at 16 euros a night and i know where I would prefer to be now.
We were thinking about taking the bus into Benidorm but never got around to it,only came home to animal sit for daughter at half term.
Spain= sun, sea sand,wine .59cents a litre fuel .95cents a litre. 72 degs.:lol-053:
Blighty= wind rain and cold.wine £4 for 75cl fuel £1.20 a litre. 10 deg if lucky.:scared:

Snowbirds.

I am sure the producers of this show also produce the Geremy Kyle type shows where they go to the bottom of the barrel to attract attention. Yes, there are characters as presented, but thankfully very few as the majority are normal individuals.
We have visited a few Costa's and Benidorm certainly has a lot of Brits with clubby land in high season dreadful to us, but a paradise for others.
Until you actually experience a location it is unfair to base judgements on a silly tv programme.
Will be back in Benidorm in about 4/6 weeks time so looking forward to sun and sangria. :D

We just spent 6 weeks in Benidorm. Lots of places to shop, eat and go out. No need to visit the horrible nightclubs if You don't want. The benidorm palace was a good show. The buses and trains are really cheap. We took a train to Denia for the day for €6.50 return each. €1.50 on the bus any single trip any where.
We're missing it already.
I tried to post a parcel here in El Campello. Nightmare trying to get them to understand me. Luckily I know a smidging of Spanish.

Its sounds like my idea of hell on Earth. I cannot see why anybody would want to go abroad to just be around with other Brits, especially if in your own vehicle. Been to Benidorm once, and must admit I would much rather be in the real Spain, away from the busy tourist areas (unless its Spanish holiday makers, as they know all the best areas). Lots of fantastic little villages and quiet beaches off the beaten track.

I think you may be refering to a different series here Wints. The programe this thread started with is the Channel 5 show 'Bargain-Loving Brits in the Sun', and not the TV show Benidorm. However, all very much about much the same thing at the end of the deay - except one is fictitious and the other is for real. We just need to sort out now which is which...

Spain is a great Country, very diverse, something for everyone, Benidorm is a super venue, lots of history and lovely buildings and parkland, you can find what you want there, as do the Brits portrayed on the Channel 5 show, if you want noisy Nightclubs and bars they are there, as is just about everything else one wants, so one cannot judge any venue by a TV programme ,one has to be there to judge on the day, one bad experience and folks hate a place ,one needs time to form a proper opinion.I have spent several weeks off and on in Benidorm and would go back again when the mood takes me, some of the Camp sites are good some not so good, one used to have to move pitches over several days to get the best on offer as folks vacated the pitches and a better one became available, not ideal but that is how it was, the markets and the general atmosphere of Benidorm is very welcoming,very relaxed and fun, so go try it you may be very surprised, after all if it turns out to be the Hell you imagine you can easily move away to find your Utopia.

I think we all need to remember that years ago when we were a manufacturing nation, many of the workforces only saw the sun for two weeks a year all together when the factory was on brake. Much like the days of a day out in a bus with the rest of the workforce from the company. The idea still today for some of traveling abroad with the problems of language and food terrifies many. We should be glad that there are places like this where many enjoy themselves and leave the nicer places for the rest of us.:lol-053:

It`s worth it for the laugh, can you get Channel 5`s catch up service Demand 5 where you are ? Demand 5 | Channel 5

It`s helped me imagine what all the " Benidormers " who come on here must be like :scared: :wave:

Well if you judge a resort by a minuscule picture that this trash programme present, then its your loss. Use an open mind and visit and do not class anybody without first meeting them as I could similarly post my opinion of what type of person you are which may not be that complimentary./ :mad1::wacko:

Oh dear :sad: get down off that high horse and remove the chip from your shoulder.

It was a light-hearted post and meant to be taken that way.

All the same, called into question and retreat with the usual trite reply. If you can't say anything positive then don't say anything.

I was in Court yesterday, before any jump to conclusions, I was training to become a magistrate. If one was to judge the young by the numbers of drunken drugged up aggressive people who end up in court, we would all wish to find another small island somewhere, and refuse entre to anyone we did not know personally. My other half really didn’t get Sothern Spain and what the British had done there, we both loved the cork tree forest and I had to keep reminding my other half, that we are not all the same, and just because others like different things which we find hard to understand does not make their likes and dislikes of any less value than ours. Tolerance should be the order of the day, and each to their own, do what makes you happy and get on with your life trying not to interfere and judge others, I know that’s hard to do, we seem as a species to want to have a pecking order and some need to look down on others as if they have been given the power of deciding for all.
live and let live
1. (idiomatic) To be tolerant; to enjoy the pleasures and opportunities which life offers and to allow others to do the same.
:)

I fear that your career as a magistrate may be fairly short! ;)
