to be honest jenny i've missed it i used to like fri/sat night in the lord nelson for the karaoke,and the lass in the barbers shop in the market hall is one of the few i've found who can still do a good flat top cut:baby:

well its their loss Arthur, its a shame if you enjoy somewhere but to be honest, i wouldn't give em my money, they really don't deserve the business if this is how they treat people, i just think the whole of Scarbados seems very anti MH, there's an un-comfortableness about the place now, i don't need that when i'm away,

I heard on Look North how Yorkshire has won a tourism award for visitors etc .
Can "Welcome To Yorkshire" do any thing to get places like Whitby , Filey and Scarborough become Motorhome friendly .
We have been to Whitby and have parked down near the Marina in a huge car park but cannot stay over night , Similar in the other resorts , In fact i enquired at the Filey tourist information about parking to attend the Folk festival and was told that there were no Motorhome parking in Filey . so we did not go ...
We are late 50s and retired (as are a lot of Motorhome owners ) We have travelled on the continent and there are lots of parking places and in France small even villages have Aires , where you can park over night most are free some charge around £5 but have access to water and an Elsan point ,
When we speak to the European Motorhome owners about visiting the Uk they say they are not welcome .
We know the old argument that there are campsites but let them be used for the Caravans and tents , also we do not have a tow car so cannot travel into the towns to buy provisions , look round , go out for meals etc .
The councils / shop owners etc are loosing a lot of revenue from the Motorhome people ,
Skegness has just designated an area for Motorhome parking £5 a day with adjacent facilities , when we looked the other day there were over 20 MH parked there and that was midweek and out of season . Also Blackpool £9 for 24 Hours or £15 for 48 Hours , We tend to go to Derbyshire or Lincolnshire now as we are made welcome and do not get the " Parking " problems that you get in the Yorkshire Resorts mentioned ,
Instead of putting height barriers and NO OVERNIGHT PARKING signs up ,
Try putting up " MOTOR HOME PARKING ONLY " Signs .

I don't mind them banning mobile homes. In fact I'd encourage it, if it meant they'd leave motorhomes alone

Stuff Scarbby, we went there for a week a few years back and all it did was rain so we haven`t rushed back , if they don`t want our money there`s plently of places home and away that i would prefer to spend it.

I don't know of anyone who drives a mobile home, I often see them on the A34 on the back of a low loader being delivered to the continent but never driven on the road.

Sorry to push things off topic slightly, where is this Skegness aire / parking??
I have stopped at Moggs Eye and Huttoft but I did'nt know there was parking at Skeg?
I agree with everyone else about Scarborough, if they don't want my money I'll happily spend it somewhere that does.
Any time I've ever been to Scarborough it's always chucked it down anyway.
Perhaps they need it pointed out to them that motorhomers are all year round visitors and will still visit friendly areas when campsites, hotels, and other places are closed?
Or maybe they make that much money in the summer season that they don't need our custom in the winter months???

Also if you Google Blackpool then type in Motorhome Parking, it shows all the car parks available for Motorhomes and the relative fees .

So many places now seem to try and make life difficult for Motorhome’s, it’s all so short sighted, in general we are middle aged, spending money in their shops etc, we are usually well behaved, decent folk, but what the hell, maybe they want the larger louts who throw up in the shop doorways and abuse the locals. I say great leaves the beautiful places less crowded and more time for decent folk to spend with decent folk.

The thing is, Scarbados is on its knees, they need all the income it can get, i was speaking to a trader at Flamborough, Christine, the crab lady, :dance: she was appalled by the new rule, she is member of the traders committee and said she had never heard anyone complaining about MH's, in fact, she said 60% of her trade comes form MH's and her fellow traders agreed, its the residents that absolutely hate tourists, doesn't matter where they stay, or what they stay in, they hate the "wesies" as we are referred to (anyone west of Scarborough) so for me and my family that have spent thousands there, this is the end of the road for me, i won't go on a campsite either, purely because tourists are hated.

We have just spent a week in Devon in a timeshare apartment - the weather was awful so we chilled most of the time. We only went to Tesco to buy provisions. We actually contributed less to the local economy than we would have had we been in our MH!
Councils really do need to look at the broader picture before slating off MH/campers..

Bonjour, I am currently sat in a large free Aire at Agde in southern France, weather warm & sunny.
Wifi Connection, well 3 actually, all free. Madam is in the local Super U stocking up on wine, food, beer,& more wine.
Think I will give Scarborough a miss AGAIN, this year.

Sea Life Centre
The car park at the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough is council owned much to my disappointment as i had previously thought it private and therefore none of the council's business.
Scabby Scarboro' is my favourite East coast spot and to be honest as with many places I use my discretion regarding Bye-Law and am prepared to move off when asked, and so their proposed changes will not affect me as the Police will never be interested in such matters.
Usual motto: Arrive late, leave early(ish!) and leave no trace. When I stop at Scarborough Sealife there's usually a brief late eve Police visit checking for youths maybe (or just on the skive?) and visitors and staff arrive 8.30am onwards but i'm already up because the inescapable dog walking brigade wake me at 7am when they park next to me and slam the doors of their 5 door car 15 times! (One day, come the revolution, I'll have their heads on pikes). When the Council van comes to empty the PayInDismay machine he doesn't have anything to say (the first time he "caught" me i drove off with my cup of tea in my hand i was so afraid of being told off!)
NIL ILLIGITUMI CARBORUNDUM which if i remember right from my schoolboy latin translates "always use a condom".
