Ok thought i would post pics of cleaning up van might help others dont know ( dont think Beemer will mind although i did say he could see the end result first ) - hard work about 16 hrs so far and i have always been manual worker - muscles ache of evening but ready to go next day - using meguires mt 320 polisher £300 worth and farecla profile polish 3 stages cut/polish/wax only used stage 2 and 3 - word of warning these machines can do serious damage

Dave might post some before photos but the white did need revitalising

So here we go polished and waxed microfibre cloth only the white concentrated on it is shiny bit overcast today taken at goring gap and my driveway

So now couple of more photos polish stage and wiped down with damp kitchen sponge still needs waxing and microfibre cloth to remove residue but i still have transfers to sort and the peeling lacquer couple of ideas and it certainly wont be re-lacquering just needs revitalising

I'll up up-date photos as i go might be useful for someone

Not asking for any advise or critism i know what i want to do and will do it

To be honest the inside is in excellent condition and certainly been well looked after ( a credit to Dave and his wife ) Dave has probably got photos 16 yr old van expect wear and tear certainly does not show it's age inside - build quality is also excellent - certainly as good or better than some more well known makes - but i had been looking for a while not many out there the ones i viewed were tired and dirty - cleaning up outside is certainly easier than having to sort an inside

You got a right bargain there, any pics of the inside when it's done?
Pictures are on Beemers thread van for sale if you wish to have a look.
I have made contact with mfw ( Malcolm) and we plan to meet for a chat some day soon down at the seafront.
I was hoping to get a photograph with our van Geraldine but she is boxed in at the mo by the 5G essential workers digging up our pavements.

Interested in knowing what backing pads you use and speed range your polisher works at. I have a Varilex WSF 1600 with a speed range from 2000 to 7500 rpm that I use for polishing the brewery vessels I build, also what do you intend on using on the decals to clean up or are you renewing them?

Polish electric mops run from around 300rpm with sponge or fleece heads for dif stages of work, paintwork MUST be kept wet when using the cutting polish and care must be taken at edges as very very easy to cut through to primmer or steel, remember cars/vans only have about 5 thu coverage,10 thu is the industry rec for steel structures.
And what a good job on the van MFW,me thinks you have done this before, come on own up. 😇

Polisher has 4 speed soft start 3800 - 5800 rpm - pads you have cutting/compounding disc did not need that - so used polishing disc minimal cutting of paint - and then finishing pad for the uv wax protection - beemer had full set for 1 side which have dried out and cracked and i will remove 1 at a time and replace - cleaning up the graphics on other side will be a bit of trial and error probably but initially gonna try armorall which hopefully will restore and rejuvenate

Yes have done it before my old 1 is 2 speed looks like 9 in angle grinder vicious will easily do damage - heavy - kicks out when you start it - very unforgiving

You are dead right about keeping area wet but the meguires you can use 1 handed and still use water sprayer with other hand to keep wet

I have an old Sealey polisher that looks like a 9" angle grinder and as you say very unforgiving and too heavy for one handed use, if you forget to switch to slow speed it is time to get the spray guns out.
You have made a lovely job of that, Beemer will be pleased it has gone to someone who will look after it

Probably should also say i bought the Deluxe model mt 320 new for under £300 and interesting to look at used resale values on ebay

Quick go at graphics trial and error as i said and they were washed off but you can see what i used this is with armorall bit of lustre back and just a wipe over this is waxed side as well so easy finish for the side happy with result can always give it another wipe over - got a plan for lacquer as well going to involve compressed airline
middle photo corner by wheelarch not been done

That sure is a lovely looking van that has obviously been looked after and obviously will be.
Will be putting a smile on the previous and current owners faces.

HA you want to try doing 12 of these babies never mind cars.View attachment 83147
Best option i think - used to work on lancing industrial estate late 70s early 80s firm built and sprayed lorry bodies used to be synthetic paint very dirty job paint went everywhere - taped overall wrists and legs up still got through - oh and vaseline on your face to remove overspray = pay was good though with the bonus double your wages some weeks
