A CO alarm can be silenced effectively by simply breathing a couple of lungfuls of CO² into it.
They probably were the cause. How many did she leave burning? Tea lights and candles give off small amounts of CO and in a well ventilated room one or two are unlikely to be dangerous. However in a small enclosure like a motorhome you need to be careful. We also had a CO alarm go off in the small hours, after SWIMBO had had some tealights burning before going to bed. On reading instructions it turns out the monitor measures an integrated CO, not just the peak level, so a lower level over a longer time can set it off even if the peaks not that high. Several hours with the doors all open at 5 degrees cured the urge to have tealights, just in case they were the cause.
