Been following this for a wee while now, a highland estate owner has been planning to introduce Bears and Wolves to his estate and as far as I am aware he has just about got his wishes granted.
The mrs said to me well if that's the case there's no way I'm going to some of the places we wild camp, I told her not to be silly she's more likely to see my Bare Axxe than a bear lol.
do you think this would scare a lot of wild campers and the like from the highlands ? P.S the bears and wolves.... Not my bare axxe lol:shag:
 
If you look at Canada and America, it would scare some and attract others. Not sure I would like to live in the area though.

I think the area that these animals were going to be was going to be totally fenced in so not much chance of them being near you.

From a farming perspective, I know how effective fencing can be so this fills me with confidence :)

Maybe they're hoping that new signs saying "Beware Of The Wolves & Bears" would be more effective than "No Overnight Parking"??!

I'm not sure that they would put me off wildcamping, but I might be a bit more wary of hiking in those areas. And we all know that animals NEVER escape from fenced enclosures!

Don't forget that many areas all around the UK already have rumoured sightings of various big cats, supposedly escaped from captivity, or abandoned by illegal private owners. :scared:

For anyone whose worried, an effective precaution is to always go hiking in wild places with another person. Preferably someone who can't run as fast as you!! :):)
 
Perhaps this is a rather expensive way to get round the public right of access legislation

They need to be brown bears to be correct for britain

That guarentees the daily mail / express and telegraph will be up in arms about it :)

I didn't realise that Dog Soldiers was based on a true story, until I bought a guide book from (funnily enough) Fort William! :scared:
