Does anybody know what I can use to get the sticky residue of my headlights from the beam deflectors? I have tried white spirit, no luck and I am reluctant to use anything else in case it makes the lens cloudy.

WD40 or Contact Duck Oil can often remove sticky bits. As a prevention I usually polish the surface with Mer car polish before sticking temporary things to a vehicle. Then when the sticky item is removed it is usually a c quick job to apply some more Mer to remove residue.

On the Murvi I have the plastic lens covers that protect the glass & I find white spirits works OK.

In theory white spirits should be better on glass at cleaning up.

Zippo lighter fluid - works a treat on sticky residues. I'm a picture framer and use it all the time to clean glass spotless.

Sticky stuff remover , just read the reviews on amazon and one reviewer actually used it to remove beam deflectors and it worked for them !

Try using cheap (non waxy) spray furniture polish. Spray on a good dollop and leave it for a few minutes. Any sticky residue should then just wipe away with very little effort. It always works for me.

I have glass headlamps and if all else fails I use the same trick the car trade uses to get overspray off the windows, very fine wire wool (the finest you can get), it doesn't scratch glass and leaves it spotless and if you doubt it then a little research will show you that 0000 grade is used to cut back between coats of Varnish, French Polishes, lacquer, varnish, oil finishes and paint in the furniture trade and also used to clean and polish metals such as bronze, copper, chrome, stainless steel and aluminium, it can also be used with soapy water to clean and polish porcelain, marble and glass without marking.

Lighter-fluid usually works for me. Or nail-polish remover. Or non-gel toothpaste. Or Brasso and lots of elbow.

I have just had my van m o t and it passed with both lens marked with deflecter marks.

headlight deflectors

I have used (successfully) Baby Wipes! Takes a little rubbing but removes it all.
And that's why babies bottoms are so smooth!
