Hi All, We've decided this very afty to head off to Bavaria in a couple of weeks for about 6weeks, after we've been to the Northern Motorhome show. Woohoo!
We are armed with Bordatlas, German map book and TomTom with POI's, German/English dic etc so we've no worries getting around. Has anybody been, that can recommend places to visit and places not to be missed? We are thinking of going from Dover to Calais and then make our way into Germany, but that is not set in stone, So if anyone's got any suggestions as to route etc we'd be grateful.

Thanks, Sue :)

Hi Sue,
Can't help you with route etc, but there are plenty of Steplatz (Aires) to stop in. We got brochures from Bavaria with the intention of going there this year - sadly not to be now.
I will leave it there as I have to get to the docs to get something for my 'green with envy' feeling!:lol-049:
Have a great time

Have a look at following the Moselle (lots of nice aires in little villages) and then the Rhine and then the Romantic Road down to Bavaria. There are some gorgeous little towns on the way down. King Ludwig's amazing castles are worth a visit. Munich is a great city and you are then not that far from Austria and if I could I would try to visit Salzburg, which is a gorgeous city, very compact with the mountains in the background. Salzburg is one of my top three cities in Europe and, if you like music, it a great place to be. It's all Mozart of course and we went to two concerts whilst we were there.

If you don't mind using a site there's one just outside the city, the bus stops outside and takes you into town with minimum fuss. If it's of interest I can dig out the name.

Thanks Northerner. HimWotDoes has had the map book out and googled the Romantic Road and we are going to have a bimble along it. We went along the Mosel about 3yrs ago but it was a bit of a whistlestop tour as we had to get back as our dear friend was ill, so may do it again as it's so lovely. Will bare Salzburg in mind if we get that far..you've made it sound worth a visit.
Thanks again
Sue:)

We travelled to Wurzburg via France and picked up the Romantic Strasse, and followed this all the way to Fuzzen, what a fantastic route, so scenic and Motorhome friendly .We called in at a Tourist Office at Wurzburg and got details of the route, there was a Stelplatz in almost every Village and town on route all detailed in the guide we got free from T I .Well worth doing this trip. If you get to Salzburg here are a couple of things to do

Go up the Untersberg and walk in the footsteps of Julie Andrews in Sound of music.

Visit Mozart's geburthaus and try the ghoulash soup.
