Just been reading the Gazette, local paper published on a Friday. Yesterdays edition had an article in re motorhome parking on the Wyndings going down to the beach. Bamburgh castle estates have just erected a new fence which prevents motorhomes parking. The reason given was the mess they leave.....some irresponsible people let down the rest of us big time !!

Very true, I have seen some selfish people there over the years, including a Caravan which came every year for a week or two in the second car park. He grabbed the corner spot and set out his awning, table and chairs. I had a quick chat with him and he and his family could see nothing wrong with what they were doing. One time, there was also an oldish Hymer parked near him, parallel to the beach and taking up 3 or 4 car parking places.

I am hoping that they will still remove the height barrier from that car park over the Winter as we sometimes have a night there in that car park. As there are only dog walkers about then, we are not a problem.

By the way, welcome to the wildies forum.

That's a shame, brilliant spot there overlooking the beach out to the farne islands. We spent some time there last year. I didn't find any other places to stay around that area.

A big disappointment, I used this spot once a year for a single night stay.
I have witnessed car users making a mess and even cleaned up after them too.
It is also car user who urinate on the beach and the dunes as they do not have a toilet
as we do in our motorhomes.
The other people losing out are the pubs and butchers who sell great beer and pies in the village.

Thanks for welcome

First post for me !! Have just been browsing the forums for a short while. Figuring out whether I should become a full member !?

Well with no motorhomes parked up they'll soon realise that the cars parked are the ones that generally imo are the ones who leave the most crap behind. Shame there's no MH'ers on here to monitor it and report back.

i go up there quite often i will monitor it. Could even leave sandwich packets in car park to frame the cars.

New Sign saying No Overnight Parking

I was there yesterday and read the new sign. So disappointed its a favorite of ours too. Can we ignore the sign there is no threat of prosecution. Does anyone know how it stands in law?

It is private land and belongs to the bloke in the big Castle just along the road. :)

Interesting what they say quote:
----------------------------------------------
Mr Calvert said: “Before you used to get one or two camper vans and they would tidy up after themselves, but now people are using the tops of the dunes as toilets.”

He added that people are flushing out all sorts of materials into what is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), despite the fact there are eight camping and caravan sites in and around Bamburgh, Seahouses and Beadnell.

“They should be supporting the local economy, but they come fuelled up and stocked up with food and don’t spend any money,” he said. “Last year, someone parked their van and then drove home during the week in their car so that they had their spot.

“We are not anti-camper van, but they have their place and it’s only due to their reluctance to obey the law that we’ve had to take action.

-------------------------
We've often come here on a Saturday night and had Sunday lunch at the Lord Crewe Hotel as do other m/h's owners who have stopped here. It's a shame people who make these decisions are so short sighted. The Lord Crewe does good food, so it's a shame they and the little tea room will have to miss out on extra income because we're not welcome.

When we stayed in this lovely spot last year we not only spent in the local shops but also paid the high admission price to visit what is an excellent castle. If the locals wish to lose the trade from motorhome users then so be it, their loss too.

Castle is a bit of a con, from castle point of view, fairly new, no as braw as oor yins

I found it very interesting, particularly after recently visiting Cragside, and the basis of the castle is ancient.
The aviation museum section is particularly well displayed.

I have stayed in Bamburgh a few times and ate out and had a few pints etc . It would appear from other threads that we , as a group , don't actually spend much at all . Many people appear to set off stocked up , park up and contribute nothing to the local economy . All of which they are perfectly entitled to do . We cannot , at the same time , expect local councils , towns and villages to welcome us with open arms .
