Bald man needs inverter for hairdryer.

It would also imply that they cheat us on the label. My 1200W hairdryer can't be 1200W. Using Ohm's law it would be impossible.

bald man- inverter

I know what you mean, shortcircuit, Im still none the wiser. I now have the 800W hairdryer and can't understand whether I should buy a 1200W or a 5KW inverter!!

A 1200w will do it and assuming hair drier has different settings, the lowest should be used first. 5kw is a bit overkill

I have posted a few times we used a 800W hairdryer with a 800W invertor, we also used a 900W kettle, a 900W vacuum cleaner (all low wattage items designed for caravans) and a 500W microwave which needs more than 800W to start, we have done this for almost (or more than, I cannot be precise) 10yrs, it has never been a problem and to be honest I sometimes think we worry too much, don't buy a cheap one from Ebay, buy one from a reputable source and a 1000W - 1200W would be more than enough

That would seem right to me as i recently ran my wifes 700 watt hairdryer on a durite 500 watt sine inverter and it ran fine.My battery monitor told me that i was drawing between 14 and 15 amps.
When it states that you can run 500 watt appliances on a 500 watt continuous inverter you dont need a larger inverter.A lot of appliances are not running at the wattages that are stated but a lot less probably a health and safety thing:lol-053:

The conclusion- Sterling Power advised me to use an 1800w device to power an 800w hairdryer.
The upshot is, I've bought one of their 1800w inverters off ebay at half the new price, let's see what happens.
thanks everyone
Steve

Hi
I am very new to motor homing and wild camping. Like Steve I would like to know what type and power inverter to buy to run a hair dryer for my wife !!! I am no electrician and need the basics please.
Going to France and Spain end of Sept so would be good to get info before, also not sure if I have posted this the correct way?

Hi

Hi Guys I have 230w solar panel 2 120ah batteries, and a 2000w inverter I can run a hair drier drill and the most important for me is is my 500w kettle, and 800w toaster my inverter was £35 on ebay look the inverters from China Haydn (the other one)

In theory you have a 1000 watt inverter so a 1000 watt hairdryer to be on the safe side 750 watt would be better.

However a 750w hairdryer will take roughly 3a at 240v so it will take 60A from your battery

Alf

What wattage hairdryer can I run off 1000 inverter, Haydn? There seems to be conflicting information.
