Bad design?

Is it just me, or does anyone else find the ignition key on Sevel vans is always where your right knee wants to be? Or at best the other dangly things on my key fob do a merry dance on your knee? If I push the seat further back to keep my knee away from the key, I'm in a straight arm driving position which I find pretty uncomfortable on long trips.

I haven't got a Sevel van s can't answer your questions BUT... Many years ago I decided loads of stuff on the keyring could interfere when turning the key and was annoying to have. Since then only have the ignition key on its own

I have to say Neil that your solution seems a lot more practical than driving in an uncomfortable position.

Egn and steering locks should not be together, engine start key should be in centre of dash and a removable key for steering, also a simple push button to turn the starter.

I have ignition key; locker key; bottle opener and nowt else on my key ring.

Nah, I still don't like a bunch of keys whether or not I have my leg on haha

If I ever have to use Caz's keys its a nightmare, loads of keys for gawd knows what and loads of mini store cards on rings attacked

The dangly bits were secondary. Main point is that my knee is touching the end of the key if I have my seat where it is most comfortable. Not great, for eg, in a shunt. Not sure if my knee or the key would come off worst.

Agree, my right knee always feels quite vulnerable should we have a shunt, It's a crap design fault and I wish they'd put the ignition somewhere else. I take it you know the seats adjust up and down front and back? You can possibly get a slightly better position using these.

Yes. And if they even made the steering wheel adjustable up and down as well as in and out, (as in most other vehicles) that would help to get the key out of the way, a bit.

can you not cut down a spare key then weld a bit of round on for a grip ?

Absolutely! Bloody annoying! I tried folding the key in the upward position while in the ignition, but it won't stay there.

I've just seen a solution elsewhere where the owner used an elastic band around the key fob and wiper stalk to hold the fob away;

I just went down to the van to check.

I'm 5' 9.5'', and my knee is a good 6-7 inches from the key.

Yes, but only available if you also spec the solid walnut dash.

It's not only the key that's a problem. On a post 2017 Ducato the fog light switch is out of sight behind the steering wheel, in a group of six or seven others. I've stuck a little plastic bumper on mine so I can locate it by touch
