Sorry I have no experience with driveaway awnings. However when you decide what to get, check prices at Johns Cross Motorhomes. I bought a 5.5m Fiamma awning from them earlier this year and their prices were the best I could find anywhere but on top of that I also got a further 10% Wildcamping discount. Overall I saved at least £250.

We bought a drive away when we got our van. Used it twice in 7 years.

We had a fiamma roll out on the transit... Great bit of kit as it was light and quick to deploy/fold away...
However on the Moho I've decided to go for a, simple and cheap sun sail.... £35 off amazon and hooks into 2 of the existing awning mountings and two folding awning poles at the outer edge with guy lines.

Can also be pitched with just one pole and the other corner pegged down to the ground to give some shelter if it's windy.

Tried various options and found a simple Garden Gezebo is the best. Ligtweight and can be put up or taken down quickly by one person. You can have just the bare Gazebo or put as many of the four sides up as you need (they are attached with Velcro).

Any chance that you could pst up a photograph of your sun sail please?

I am thinking of getting something that is quick and easy to deploy on our LWB Renault Master, but I don't want to buy a roll out.

Not the first time I've read similar comments. You have to ask yourself why so many awnings are sold as used
once or hardly used, before buying one yourself.

Excellent answer I fully agree, we now have a Dog and that is main reason, not sleeping quarters but drying off etc.

That was sort of the conclusion we came to.... The roll out one was less than £100 used from ebay....
Had our moneys worth out of it for shade in summertime etc...
I suspect we would have been slightly disappointed IF we'd spent over £500 on a wind out one.
To be, honest IF the Moho wasn't so tall as to make deploying the roll out one impossible, I'd be swapping it over before we sell the Transit....
Instead we've gone for a sun sail that I can hook to the existing awning mounts using the litter picker we always carry.

Have a look at the Quest Screen House 4. You will require a full width MH garage in which to store it.

It pops up in under 1 minute, you then insert 2 door support poles, 4 pegs in each of the corner islets and then fix and peg 3 storm straps if required. There are wind screens available as extras for shelter and privacy. Ideal for sitting outside at night in a mosquito free environment. Total weight around 11kg for the 4 side version which we have.

For campsite use only of course!

I'm guessing you mean a drive away safari room rather than an awning which is attached, I've had both types and a 'blow up' is far and away easier than poles, if I've misunderstood apologies.

Any chance of a pic of the awning mounts? Mine had a wind out once upon a time but was removed along with all fittings before I got it. Could really do with some shade as sun burns me up and quite fancy the sail type if I could fix it to the van

Course.... They're just the standard fiamma ones (I have some IKEA hooks that fit through the locking bolt holes)
First sail I bought was too big at 4m x 5m.....
So bought another 3m x 4m (3m is max width between the brackets I have)

Thanks for that, looks like it was different mounting on mine. Can see what looks like four bolt holes on the roof just above the curve on drivers side. It would we way too high to reach to fix anything but if I put hooks or eyes I may be able to reach with an extending pole for a sail. Don’t want to spend a month or mores pension on a wind out but shade would be good.

We tried a gazebo but the one I had was no good, a sturdier one would need more storage space so as usual it’s where to compromise

A Wildcamping Forum is bound to have a bias toward the more negative viewpoints
when it comes to awnings.
The CMC, CCC sites probably have dedicated 'awning advice' gurus with GCE's in
the subject.

Exactly my thoughts.... For us it's mainly shade for myself and the dogs on the sunnier days...
Packed up the 3m x 4m sunsail is around 300mm x 300mm x 50mm.... So takes up little space (even the support poles pack away small)
Mrs is going to kill me when she discovers that 2 of the IKEA pan rack hooks are missing ;-)
