Dont want to drill holes in metal of van to fix awning legs into , has anybody used got this type of thing
Graft Awning holder (2 Pieces) | Holder for awning feet | Awning foot holder for a camper, motorhome or caravan | Suitable for THULE, FIAMMA and DOMETIC awning feet | Accessories for awnings https://amzn.eu/d/6vVplis

I'd be very interested to know as well Andy, would save me a problem about where to fix the mountings on the side of the van if I fixed permanent ones.

I will watch with interest.

I posted this on t'other site .......

We have got similar and used them occasionally, they do work but van surface needs to be clean. They also need daily re-fitting otherwise there is a tendency for them to drop off particularly in hot weather.

These look the same but cheaper;

Not sure I'd leave them on overnight anyway - they might go walkies and they ain't cheap!

We were parked next to a Spanish couple with a panel van which they converted.

Their awning was held in place with at least six off, the sucker device as shown in link, they seemed to work very well.

Like everything, cheaper isn't always the right solution (with apologies to Aldi and Lidl) We used to use two cheaper versions to hold up an ally wifi pole, we often heard a clatter as the pole fell off within a few hours. Eventually we bought the Multi Anker ones at a better price in europe. They do a better job but not perfect.

I just extended legs so they reached the floor a the bar leg was right In the way while having dinner.
No right turn! Lol

I use suction cups and ratchet straps back to the wheels in places where I can use awning legs, this is normally in racing pits where I can’t deploy pegs and I don’t carry weights, they work but not my preferred method.

As with everything the cheap ones are cheap for a reason, over centre lever types are a bit dodgy in my experience. But the pump action versions are much more expensive.

I use these Rob, the feet on the bottom of the awnings legs drop in the half rings and once the ratchet straps are tight they don’t move.

Ok just an update the suction cups i bought from screwfix worked but!
They are designed for plate glass and although the van has a nice shine to it its not glass,
They would come unstuck after about an hour, i tried them wet and dry, i also polished the van in the two fixing areas hoping to get a better seal.
The upshot is ive donated them to a friend who deals with glass and purchased the graft awning leg suction cups, got a good deal with 20% off from ebay so came in at just over £40 , so far with lots of use in the german sunshine not come unstuck yet

Sorry but I would not trust these things to hold up an awning/ canopy
The consequences if your awning came away whilst driving could be extremely serious.
I doubt very much if the manufacturer would support such a method, and for good reason. Personally I would bolt your awning using internal mounting blocks, and then seal the upper part to prevent water ingress at the rear of the awning.
That way you will feel a whole lot better whilst driving your van.

It's a bit academic now, but I used suction supports many years ago for our caravan awning.

Over time, they damaged the graphics. Personally, I wouldn't use them again.

Ok here goes ! The suction cups are for the legs only,
And then only on a dead calm day and if we leave the van the awning is always folded away ,
There are no graphics where the legs fit on my van , I was trying not to drill the steel body as I didn’t want to introduce another point of water ingress,
Doesn’t matter how many times you clean a magnet there will always be a small shard or filing of metal gets on it

As Andy said Bill they are used to slot the bottom of the legs into so you mount them low down on the side of the van.
