Availability of diesel in Europe in the coming months

Just across from the aire we are parked up at in Spain Guardamar diesel is €1.849 at the Ghol station

Price 2 days ago was €1.949 so it has dropped 10c since Friday.

Not yet had any filling issues. It could be people are now holding off topping up their diesel as prices now dropping giving stations a chance to recover local supplies.

filled this morning at vilar formosa just over the spanish border €1:83 it was a galp garage attached to a carrefour supermarket with their loyalty card got it for €1:76 with the galp loyalty card €1:72 unfortunately i had neither ,

I'm driving through Spain at the moment and haven't come across a garage without fuel.
Repsol is €1.86 even on the main roads.
I ask my self why is there fuel here at a reasonable price for the world situation but it appears that there's a shortage of fuel elsewhere at much higher prices.
Could it be panic buying or is something more sinister happening.

I think Spain has its own refinery reserves.

As of April 2026,
Spain
has managed to avoid the widespread fuel shortages seen in some other EU nations by leveraging its robust domestic refining infrastructure and being the first European country to aggressively tap into its strategic oil reserves.

Its cheaper because

  • VAT Reduction: The government slashed VAT on petrol and diesel from 21% to 10%. This measure alone accounts for a reduction of up to €0.30 per litre.
  • Excise Duty Cuts: Spain has reduced the special tax on hydrocarbons (excise duty) to the minimum level permitted by EU standards.
  • Targeted Subsidies: A direct subsidy of €0.20 per litre is provided for essential sectors, including transport workers, farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen.
  • Strategic Reserves: To ease supply stress, Spain authorised the release of 11.5 million barrels of oil from its national strategic reserves.

No cuts here, o

No cuts here, our guv require funds for the up and coming industrial baby boom, which will hit us in approx nine month time. 🤬

So let me get this right, you are going to get paid for making babies, do you require a butler to hold ones rags. 😂

Just spoke to my mate who lives in Mayenne and he's just paid €2.45 for diesel and some places are rationing to 20L per customer. I'm going to Belgium and France for 7 weeks early May. Just worries me if you get stuck 200 miles from ferry with no diesel.

We are in mid France now, prices have come down a bit, I seen diesel today at €2.15 somewhere it was €2.45 last week

It's not so much the prices (certainly for those well off enough to take the hit to the pocket), it's the actual availability of the stuff down the line that could cause travel problems.

No one has any idea how long the oil disruption will last, or what reserves are being held where and by whom, and how long they will last.

I certainly don't, so basically you'll just have to wing it and hope for the best, or not bother travelling at all if you are seriously risk averse.

As far as us holidaying motorhomers are concerned, the idea of us not being able to go where we want because of this situation is very much a 1st world problem. The impact of this crisis will be of a far more serious nature for other regions and peoples in the world. 🤷‍♀️

We're in control of far less things in life than some people would like to believe... ;) 😜
