Has anyone upgraded the wiring from their leisure battery in an Autotrail? They are really thin and I think are the cause of my battery not lasting as long as I feel it should. I have just had a solar panel and want to make the rest of the system as efficient as possible. I'm no auto-electrician but I am assuming that the thicker the wire the less voltage drop you get the longer the battery will last?

Cheers

It depends how much current you're drawing. It's a bit like using a thin tube to carry water from a storage tank; OK if you want a drink, but no good if you want to fill a big bucket. In that case a thicker tube would be a more efficient way. :)

So if I'm only drawing 2.5 amps over 5 meters then 2.5 amp cable is adequate?

Has anyone purchased the second battery cable for the Autotrail and found it better? (with a second battery of course).

This intrigues me. What is the second battery cable?

To answer your last question, 2.5mm cable will adequately carry 2.5 amps within the motorhome.

The power you will get out of a battery will be determined by how much you use and increasing the size of cable will not alter that. If the current is very high then you will get volts drop which will effect the efficiency of the appliance.

I just get the feeling we are not going to get the answer you want.

£24.99 to provide "twice as much power" for about a £5 of wire etc??? Just re-read and this is for attaching a second battery with very light cables. Assume vehicle must be pre-wired and are you fitting a second battery?

No don't come with second battery only this provision on the wiring loom. If I'm going to fit a second battery I shall just make my own at a fraction of the cost.
