hi i am just wondering if anybody could help us,when we switch the fridge to gas the automatic ignition isnt working...at the weekend it did work very slowly and we thought it may have been something to do with the leisure battery being a bit depleted, but we charged it up today on 240v and nothing is happening, any thoughts would be much appreicated sam

Could just be some dust in it Samm. Does it light ok using a match or gas lighter?

Can you see the ignition spark at all.
Do you need to bleed the gas.
Could be a bad connection.
Maybe needs service by corgi registered gas fitter.

Someone is bound to come up with the idea of blowing it through with an airline. Be warned. DON'T. Can be very dangerous. If in doubt get it professionally checked out.

12v fridge

It should just need a 12v supply to the piezo unit plus an earth at the sparker end, I would look for rust that drops down the chimney and falls on and shorts the sparking unit. Our new M/H has removeable plastic vents on the outside on the van and makes servicing VERY easy, however our old Autosleeper had fixed grills and was an absolute pain to get the fridge out! Good luck, I just hope you have a removeable grille/vent model.

Gas Fridge switch

I am not aware what kind of ignition you have. To turn on my fridge, I put the switch on the "ON" position. A red light built into the switch begins to flash. I then set my flame size dial along side the switch to low and press the dial knob in, holding it in this position until the red flashing light goes out. Once out, I slowly release the dial knob. I then turn the dial to any flame height. Last year, I had a problem with the switch, I bought a new one, 98p. Worked pefectly. Perhaps:- 1) Faulty switch, 2) Bad contact, 3) Needs cleaning. Or could be the jet end needs cleaning.

Fridge

Yep back to basics, is there a ticking sound when trying to light it???

I've been going down the faulty ignition route, and due to comments about matches and airlines some are going down the low gas pressure route.

So come on Sam give-us-a-clue!!!!

Sam As Billy said "does it light with a match or lighter?
Fridges are renowned for being the most difficult gas appliance to light!

Depends upon the fridge.........and although I am a gas fitter........I am no expert on gas fridges, especially motor home fridges.

I am inclined towards the theory that the spark generator ( which will not be piezo) ........has given up the ghost.

.......and sorry, but in this case you will need a gas fitter or qualified service engineer from the manufacturer to sort it out.

Sam, I put mine into a dealer & they had no idea.  I took it away from them and put it into another dealer & they did the job in about 1 hour. Any good caravan dealer would be able to do it as same parts!
Sometimes, it is better to bite the bullet & go for it!
yes we went to salop caravans today ,they gave us some advise but were leaning more towards changing something on the fridge that would have cost £59 or there abouts without labour:eek: plus im very poor ha ha
