Hello

We have a problem with our kitchen worktop, which is swollen due to the tap leaking. We contacted Auto Trail although our van is only 5 years old the worktop is no longer available.

Anyone know where I can source a worktop to match what is there at present?

Any other advice greatly received.

Thanks
Nic

Hello

Thank you for all your suggestions, the photo is not a easy task as the motorhome is in storage and as yet I have not been able to get to it for a photo. So to the odd few don't put 2 + 2 together and come up with 5!. Attitude gets you no where in life lol

Is it like any of these pictures, I know it is only google images but there are different types of worktop so any clue to the type would help

You could try some heat underneath it. Just something gentle like a tube heater. When it has dried see what it's like. If its ok then varnish round the hole a few times. You will probably find the work top is built up of ply and stringers to give the impression of solid wood. Its the underlying ply that's got the damp in it. If you can see into the wood then glue in a syringe in the gap and some decent weight on top till it dries. You will probably do more damage getting it out.

If you are convinced a delam type repair is not going to work or look a bugger. Careful removal of the existing one and take to a decent kitchen outfit or even shopfitters. Using the old one as a template, A competent joiner soon have you back in business.

Also a useful tip should you need to change floor linings and are not confident in laying floors

I used to deal with these people and can make a replacement no doubt. We use them for making hi spec Arc shutes used in liquid starter motors for Power stations. No idea what they would charge for a one off but they also do a lot of stuff for bars hotels etc British Mica :: Crystic Stonecast

Hi
Never thought of google for a picture brain getting old lol Have attached a picture yeah lol

It is a 2010 Auto trail Apache I was a bit shocked when I phoned Auto Trail and they said they can no longer supply a replacement part. The top of the worktop is swollen so now the taps sit at an angle.

They said they could pull out the old plans and cut out a new bit worktop but they could not do the ash edging so was not keen as it would not match up.

The work top pattern apparently is Black Shore

Could you not carefully remove the old Ash edging and reuse it?

Might be worth a go.

if the ash edging goes to a mitre joint just out of shot, then i'd say you could almost guarantee re-using it. cut it off carefully as i think it has a tongue going into a slot in the chipboard, then carefully remove the c/bd remains from it
