ATM machines in Spain

The joys of the cashless society we are heading for soon, they can add a fee for every thing you buy do or pay for. And knowing the banking system of old, they will be doing just that.
I have a Post Office travel money card that was refuesed everytime I tried to use it in garages and tolls, it seems there is a system that has to t6ake so much then credit back the balance. Will that card work in the cash machines, I have 500 euros sitting in it that have been there for two years now, not touched. I had to use my Nationwide credit card for most things as it has a no charge policy and good rates.

The Caxton FX card works well in ATM`s so i don`t see why the Post Office card shouldn`t work in them as well.

It only ever been refused at one toll booth ( Pont de Normandie ) but the Halifax Clarity was also refused there so we paid cash.

What was the rate you were offered like compared to the interbank rate when you exchanged UK pounds for euros to load the card with.

Sorry I've just seen your reply. I converted over a period of about two months. Whenever the rate touched 1.12 Euro I would convert some sterling.

In Benidorm at moment. Went to a Santander cash machine at bank,€5 charge for €70, no thanks. Tried a Telebanco machine on its own, no charge. There are dozens of cash machines in the busy area, only metres apart, which I am told charge €8 a go and they will be making a fortune from the the hens and stags. Weather is good today and my webcam at home shows snow at my front door, so very happy to be here although short lived.
