I have been tent camping and motorhoming for over 30 years, during that time I have learnt to become frugal with resources.
I now need to keep the vehicle starter
battery topped up to maintain confidence in the ability not to be stranded.
With my first van,a VW camper, which was very basic with only electric lights so no real need there. As the years went on and vehicles come with more dependency on electric lighting, water pumps etc. Batteries need to have the capacity. As for entertainment a trailer pack supplied the power for a radio/cassette light and even, when needed, a small B&W 2" Sony portable tv,ever tried watching a snooker final on a Welsh hillside in a howling gale!
I now have a 120w panel and a 110Ah leisure
battery. 120w is to increase the charging possibilities in poor weather conditions.
It now covers all the needs even tv and radio,it was brilliant at Glastonbury last year.
BTW I also have replaced all internal lighting with LEDs to conserve
battery power.
Still miss the Tilley lamp hiss bright light and warmth, only when sitting out side, and you could toast bread on top VERY QUICKLY!
I am considering an Oxbox portable fire pit
http://oxbox.es/ or a Rocket stove
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_stove, to get the nostalgia glands going.
