Are we wild campers or part time wild ,part time site?

Need my daily shower to start the day so being new to motorhoming do 2/3 days wilding then site for 1 night or use the C&CC motorhome stopover facility at £7.50 per night.
Wet ones and a wash down not for me, thats why i made sure my motorhome had a shower so i dont have to 'rough it'.

not all Mr B

i've heard these ''camp sites'' can be a bit expensive and regimented ? and people go on them willingly ?

hmmm

Not all Mr B we have found some lovely small, cheep, unregimented campsites usually farm sites where they just want to boost there income and if we come across expensive ones we just don't bother I will not pay more than £ 20 in peak and as cheep as poss out of season and if they charge for dogs i ask what facilities they are providing for the charge. There is a campsite up here that charges for dogs £1 per night but for that you get a massive floodlit dog walk on site and they mow it into as maze for the dogs to play in. :dog::dog::dog:

I can understand the needs of those without showers etc but I don't think it's something we ever intend to make plans for.
I quite enjoy the challenge of finding somewhere to take on water and empty the cassette.
Also, the thought of staying somewhere that just resembles a mobile housing estate with rules, regs and kids is not my idea of fun.

My sentiments exactly, and tbh if I needed a shower I would find a swimming baths, it would be cheaper and a lot more fun.

I have never used one since joining this site. the more you wildcamp the easier it becomes.

Stayed on a camp site in France last year when my son and family joined us as they had a tent. My GOODNESS!!!!! £50 a night!!! I couldn't believe it. Large site and yes it was ok but not £50 worth of ok. There is only do many times you can walk round it. It was nice though to have our son join us as it's normally the last thing they want to do but never again. Prior to getting the MH we went stealth camping out of the estate car and never had a problem with showers. Found a quiet spot, threw some tows over the open doors and used water heated in the big black camping shower bags. Worked a treat and better still free

I agree the more you wild the easier it gets. We never use a campsite in the UK and only in Europe when either we want to visit a city (e.g. Paris and needed to stay put for 3 days or more) or were desperate to have a grand blitz of the van and our wardrobe (we were on the road for over 10 weeks)

Ignoring our skiing trips where facilities are close to essential for longer trips, we are about 50/50. We use a site when with the grandchildren/children as a site suits better.

Only had mh 3 weeks been out twice and both times used pub stops , doing the west coast of Scotland in a cpl of weeks and will be wilding it all apart from a relative visit/ pit stop . Have planned out water stops and (I think ) waste drops en route. Shame I didn't find this forum before I paid for CC membership ( will get monies worth using M6 toll later in the year :) )

It's been well worth becoming a full member just for the POI's let alone anything else.

I think I will prefer wilding ... I'm too much of a meldrew and would probably get kicked off a regimented site :D

Three months in France - 2 campsites (10 nights) as friends were visiting 100 Euros spent. Worth it for the convenience but much prefer stripping off in the great outdoors for a shower from the kettle and plastic bowl with a great view (not me having s wash!)

us too... Why not ?

We're off down to Spain on Tuesday, travelling back for a month via Portugal and France. We haven't got a shower in the camper so we'll keep clean as best we can til we need a shower to stay socially acceptable. Then it's into a campsite to clean up and do the laundry.

Apart from that we'll wild as much as possible and use Aires when we need to service the van.

Johnny A

We do have a shower and use it as a way of cleaning the bathroom, regularly.

If you had a little boat it would be crazy to only go from marina to marina ,meeting only people who go from marina to marina .... But it's nice to find the odd Cl on a nice farm for a weekend ,In the UK summer when it's p!55ing it down, it's very necessary if you can have hard standing.

We have a fully fitted Hymer but when I leave home I don't know from one day to the next where I will be so will it be campsite or wilding, I don't know today and I will not know tomorrow, if I have to think and worry about which one then what is the point

We wild when we want and stay on sites when it suits us.
So don't know if we're purists or part timers. It is a leisure activity for us, not religion or politics.

Sorry if we don't qualify.

Your right it's not religion or politics just hard earned cash that I have no intention of wasting. Every pound saved is a pound nearer retirement

I agree 100% but you do not let it spoil your life, I have retired early and I could afford to spend £15pn on a campsite every night if needed but if I can go 25 nights without one I have more to spend on the other 6 nights in a Month, it isn't what you can afford it is what you can save for later but still enjoy life

It is leisure activity for me also amongst other activities I enjoy in retirement,
Wildcamp or campsite depends where and how I feel, if I am skinned I stay at home till finance gets better.
Guess I do not qualify here strictly .

i never stay on sites- some people only stay on sites- some , stay on sites and wild camp
this place is for all of them, but especially for those who have never 'wildcamped' because they may not have realised it's an option !

We have just sold the Talbot express, but we used to manage 4 days wilding, before having to refil water and empty the toilet, so one night on a site, managed 2 weeks in Scotland and never used a site, iI suppose it depends where you are.

I didnt mean to sound patronising or anything...i was just curious to see who did what and whatever anybody does is up to them and what best suits at the time. The main thing is to just get out and enjoy the van and all that it can show you .

parking

Is it just me or am I wrong I never look for poi if I get tired and need to stop I just find a pub or just park at side of road, wherever I lay my hat sort of never had a problem and never thought it was wild camping I just stop when ready. do like beer though.

I think it takes a little courage and then gets easier. Our first night wilding we forgot the cassette. Having resorted to a bucket and chuck it for a weekend we thoroughly enjoyed it.
When we originally discussed our recent trip to Scotland we said we would probably use a site every 3rd day or so. In the end we wild camped every night with a couple of pub stops. Every morning we'd decide where to go that day and only once did we actually go there! It's a total break for me not to have everything planned to the last detail.
