Motorhomes form a small part of production allocation in the grand scale. I used to supply romahome, a company called crystal conversions who did minibuses and one of the biggest was oughtred and Harrison whose work you see daily and never realise they do a lot of ambulance conversions for the nhs.
From either Citroen or fiat we would order the relevant chassis cabs on a production run the cabs satisfied uk certificates of conformity ...on arrival in the uk once past customs they would find their way to the converters whom dependant on size would hold stock free initially whilst they undertook the conversion , nothing to do with us at this stage ...upon completion the vehicles would be registered with delays either electronically or the older days on a v55 /v53 at the local vehicle licensing office before they were all closed. As far as the end user is concerned the warranty commences on the date of registration so benefit of the full warranty, a uk warranty too , so far easier getting terms unique to the uk like the breakdown cover.
The manufacturers prefer to do business this way, as fleet support bonuses to incentivise remains confidential with the converter.
It works the other way too, a very good pal is an electrical engineer for webasto in Doncaster, they do a lot of bespoke conversions for the UN so it isn’t uncommon to see trucks there being converted and shipped back to Europe on terms that mirror the uk but belong to the German and Dutch market.
It’s all quite a smooth process manufacturers cotton on years ago
