Depends of weather conditions. What I will say to you, the current Calmac ferry schedule is in chaos do to ferries taken from route to cover other routes due to breakdowns. The brand new Glen Sannox was off route due to tech issue, back on following day, then off route for this ongoing tech issue.

The whole ferry situation is an embarrassment to our nation. So due diligence before booking is my advice.

Scottish Islands are often not as bad because of the wind etc but of course they can be in certain conditions. Ferries as said are still a nightmare. Ill be off up there in May hopefully.

If you in a spot sheltered from the wind there will likely be loads of midges at that time of year, head for somewhere which is exposed to the wind to avoid them.

Haven't they found even more cracks in the hull? I seem to recall reading that a few weeks ago, if so that points to some serious design/material faults.

One of my old apprentices got a switch from Dales at Leith dock, to Dales Geenock yard. I'll ask if he has any news on the ferry debacle, as some of the CM ferries end up in Greenock drydock. Sannox may have to go the Fergie yard where the vessel was constructed?

Listening to this morning Scottish news, a statement from CalMac stating ferry fleet in disarray, eight from the fleet undergoing repairs. EG, Oban to Mull, usually Lord of the Isles vessel, cancelled this weekend

Mull music festival next month, hopefully all Mull ferries are up and sailing, a lot of work goes into this fantastic festival, and also a good beginning of a new year earner for the islanders.

Not great news re: fleet reliability for any members thinking about visiting our spectacular Inner and Outer Hebrides.

As a native of the region and one who has spent years trampling the heather, I would say that June and `September are the best of the summer months to visit Arran.
