Anyone with a 7 metre van Wild Camp?

Thank you for all the replies, as it happens I've seen a 6m van that may or may not be what we've been looking for ;) The only thing I'm not certain of is that it's on a 2000 Mercedes Sprinter with the a 2.2 litre engine in and I did want either a 2.7 Merc or 2.8JTD Fiat. Anyone got this engine?

Regards,
Del

Our van is 6.25m and we’ve gone just about everywhere in it. We’ve parked up in tiny beaches/harbours in Greece down narrow tracks and thought we had the place to ourselves only for a bloody great Carthego or Concord to rock up. It’s not the size that matters, it’s how well you can drive it. A clue is to look for bus stops and dustbins. If buses and dustbin lorries can get down, so can you.

I have had sprinters with both engines, and the 2.7 was a great engine, but the 2.2 does the job quite well, you could always have it mapped to 160bhp.
Our current motorhome is a Merc sprinter 2.2. 163bhp and goes really well

Seems to me that the original question was back-to-front.

To be able to wildcamp for any decent length of time, you need a motorhome that is self-sufficient and comfortable. So one that is over 7 metres is much more likely to be suitable than one that is smaller.

Obviously you have more space in an eight or nine metre van than one which is shorter. Having said that we’ve spent the last five years touring Europe in a 6.25m van and never felt cramped. OK, it’s a bit cosy and when we started out we were worried that we’d be killing each other within a week or so but you adapt. We’ve looked around bigger vans but reckon ours is/was an ideal size. Easy to drive, plenty of storage space, nice and comfy.

Really, we have a comfortable drop down bed, excellent kitchen, seperate shower and toilet,165litre fridge, gas oven, diesel heating, large lounge big enough for 6 people comfortably 8 at a push, and we can take our grandson as it’s a 4 berth, 120l freshwater tank, 120w solar panel, and it has a 750kg payload, all in a 5.97m Motorhome.

Our van is both self sufficient and very comfortable.

As my search for a low profile 6 metre van seems to be fruitless I'm wondering how many of the members use a 7 metre van to willd camp and if you do how do you get on with it?
I'm only asking as I've seen loads of them for sale, I must point out that I have a Easylifter Hydra-Trail that will add about another metre or so to it whne in use.
As usual any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have been wild camping 58 years, I think only once I went into a campsite because of my Mom so she could get a shower, Next day I took her home and settled her into her armchair. For me, it is a freedom I enjoy and got nothing to do with funds. I love the life style and perhaps go to my grave in doing so.. Have fun and enjoy life. I have a 6.5 metres MH.

We have a 6.35m van and bike rack and wild. Can get in a lot of carpark single bays where the back end can oversail.

If we take the back wheels to the kerb the front is always behind the line

I do the same where I can but my van has a spare wheel carrier under the back end and as my van is low I have to be aware of this when parking over curbs , not a problem usually but something the O P may not be aware of and should look for when making his choice of van ?

Had a 7.2 metre never had a problem with length , only with width and height.

We’ve had our T5 long wheel base for 7 years and for what we do it’s perfect. You just wild camp where ever suits your vehicle. We can sneak under height barriers and blast up forest tracks which is why I choose a smaller vehicle. If I was offered a swap for a 7m A class tmoro I would refuse.

6.9m with tag axle, mostly wilding, and can even fit into a car parking space (er..with a slight overhang), and the wheels, all six, are in between the lines.
