Anyone got Truma Combi 6D Diesel Heating.

I am looking at changing my van and considering a van where Truma Diesel heating is an option (skiing is a big thing for me and some form of diesel heating is a must for me). I've studied it's perfoemace and output etc, all good.

However if anyone has it, is it noisy when trying to sleep?

On my current van the Webasto unit is a little noisy but it's a big van and at the opposite end to the van to the bed, you can't hear it with the divider door closed. The new van I am considering is a small van with the unit in the rear near the bed. Dealer being very helpful but has admitted only ever sold two vans with this option.

some of the new vans have the old type gas fire in with blow heating installed in them you can leave it on pilot overnight and that keep it warm or get a wet system radiators

I am also looking for a Diesel heater at the moment.

From what I have read, they all make a similar amount of noise, so it may be a case of just getting used to it. I have my radio on 24/7 anyway, so I don't think it will bother me.

I think that the reality is that if you want diesel heating, you also need earplugs. I'm not aware of any that are quiet. Not just noisy in the motorhome, but also noisy outside, so you may need to be careful where you park up. Can you really not find space for a gas supply?

Agreed. I've had both Eberspacher and Webasto on my boats, and they are noisy, especially if you are alongside!

Don't forget you can buy a silencer for the exhaust on a eberspacher....
I've fitted one and it reduces the outside noise by close on to 50% imho.
And not expensive.

Thanks for comments, yes the van has two 11kg bottle space, but when it's really cold I can empty those in 5 days and don't want to keep driving off to refill the bottles. We tend to ski for 2/3 weeks on a trip.

Hi Philly.weve got ever spacer heaters in our new trucks and them and all other diesel fuelled night heaters to my knowledge are noisy,never came across any silent or really quiet heaters,how about body heat

Ive got the same but duel electric / lpg and it works very well.

I don't wish to appear unduly negative, but if you look closely at the one in the video I posted, it's fitted with that silencer...

It is indeed fitted with the exhaust silencer but it would appear that the heater is running flat out, once the vehicles interior area is up to temperature the heater if set up correctly on the thermostat / rheostat should slow down and just tick over at which point you will find it a hell of a lot quieter, The other thing is people always mention the exhaust silencer option but in my experience the muffler you can get for the combustion air intake is a lot more effective.

There is nothing to stop a larger silencer been added if your not happy. I would rather a diesel heater than a SOG unit parked near me. Our last van had a diesel heater mounted outside under the van had intake and exhaust silencers and was virtually silent. It depends how much bother you want to go to.
