I have been licenced since 1974 as G8IPO, G4GUG and now GW4GUG.

Since March have recorded over 4000 miles.

We have a Hymer Swing 544.

Weather permitting have operated a portable station in mountains around home town of Caerphilly, and West Wales. Isle of Skye etc.

My main interest is HF PSK and slow cw. Now trying 6 metre ssb and cw.

Best Regards 73-88 from Mike and XYL Janet

Greeting from GW6 JDF.

Found me Icon in a box the other day.

To be honest, I forgotten how to use it.

Just getting ready to go to the Malvern show, and one of me dogs has been taken very ill.

So with that and the rain, maybe I should blow the dust off, get it set up.

One question as I can't remember, What do you do for a mobile arial ground plane in an A class fibreglass van?

Rgd's Graham.

Thanks for replies.
Thanks for info on charging and solar panels.
On Hf I use a s/h ldg SG230 autotuner with my 8 metre fishrod vertical, tuned agaist 6 10 metre radials.I HAVE CLARKE 2.2 kW INVERTER TYPE PETROL GENERATOR. It has an eco type control. And because output frequency [50 hz ] is not dependent on speed of engine [ with 2 pole generator that would be 3000 rpm] THE NOISE LEVEL IS LOWER AS ENGINE ONLY RESPONDS TO INCREASING LOAD. Most of the time it is running lightly. I have made a custom desk to snugly fit around dashboard area. MH is LHD. I can leave station setup and operate from vacant front passenger seat. Can we keep this thread going. It is great to hear from other radio users.

Regards.

Mike.

:welcome: Mike! That equipment looks very technical :rolleyes2:. I don't have a radio but I like Ham!

Why is it when us amateurs speak about Ham Radio. Someone chips in the usual 10-4 rubbish amateur radio is somewhat different to CB Radio..Ham Radio is for The Big Boys...M6 FAX

hi and welcome to the forum from another Ham AG4JD, uk licenced as well but that would be giving my address away and not a good idea on open forum.

Ah 0DIZ

Maybe we could try a one off Net, I'm not keen on Nets, but just to say Hi would be great, prob 40 best??

g0fgg/m I am always mobile as we are fulltiming and my station is in the motorhome.
Was g6fgg before passing the morse test. Never used morse since, as I prefer voice contacts.

Yeasu FT-847 (top band to 70cms) with Yaesu Atlas 120 antenna on wing mirror mount with a triplexer. Also have the Yaesu FC-20 ATU mounted above the set on the dashboard.

I have a portable mast (4 section) that I carry and mount on the car trailer. I have a Gwhip (80, 40, 20 & 10), that I can mount on it and a Slim Jim for 2m This mast can also be set up as 2x2 sections to carry a full size G5RV.

I usually tune in for the national RSGB news on Sunday mornings on 80 (3.500Khz at 9:00 and 09:30 GMT) and 40 (7.150khz at 10:00 & 10:30 GMT).

I also have a CB in the dash but it is as dead as a dodo on CB.

This winter we will be travelling through France from mid September to southern Spain and back for mid April. I will be travelling light this time with no car or masts.

We have 3 x 110ah batteries and 260 watt of solar.

John
