Another solar panel question

Hi .. I got the opportunity to put 4 x40w panels of the roof of my Reimo roof (VW LWB T5) .. the leisure battery is 140amp AGM

Is this an unnecessary amount of panels, I'm looking to be as self sufficient as possible (fridge, biggish stereo, laptop and lighting)

its an expensive setup, but might be worth it in the long run, as i might not need hookups or running the engine.

Am planning on spending a lot of time wilding in the hotter parts of europe

Any suggestions would be great .. Thanks

160 watt is on the plus side so as long as they physically fit your roof then very good.

Many thanks .... do you have any idea what one would expect to pay for that amount of solar panels (or less) of the same power + regulator? I've seen prices (thin, flexible ones), going for £500 to £1400!

I think batteries and panels are about right. 100Ah - battery --> 80 to 100W panel.

For a 80W panel maybe pay £140? For 4x40W I wouldn't pay any more than £300. Prices are going down all the time! These are normal glass fronted roof panels, not any fancy type.

By the way, you won't run a fridge off a 140Ah battery for very long. You need at least twice that capacity and that's for a very small compressor fridge. If you want to wild with a fridge, run it off gas.

Cheers Firefox ... Was thing the same re: battery, but slowly running out of room, but will try and fit another! The Panels are going on a 'pop up' roof, so have the be the lighter, thinner, flexible ones. They also have to be bonded to the roof, so they need to be good and reliable .. because there is no taking them off! ... just trying to find a good supplier. Thanks for your comments though
