As we only live 10 miles away we used to often spend a night at the Lawns, and never spent less than a couple of hundred quid a time. Last time we were there I counted 19 vans, which was the most I’ve ever seen. But there was still no sign of any mess.

Appears simply to be a statement that they will enforce the terms of the 2012 TRO. https://tro.trafficpenaltytribunal.gov.uk/TRO/Lincoln/QL01.pdf (clause 54).

Also they haven't mentioned any mess, its misuse of the litter bins. A lot of people may not know that household rubbish shouldn't go in litter bins. Waste in a camper is household

This whole thing is riddled with anomalies.
But first to compare a charge of £21.50 a night for a fully equipped campsite

With a car park offering no facilities at £9.80 is wrong, to me the campsite with showers, and all the rest offers better value for money than the carpark.

So you can park your Motorhome overnight but don’t sleep in it, really ;)
Simply before opening the door (if you chose to do so) turn on the radio or the telly and tell them you were not sleeping. They have no way of proving that you were sleeping, it’s absolute nonscence.
This looks to me like a council who have opened their carparks for overnighting, and put no controls in place and are now taking the lazy option. Everyone knows that’s it’s impossible to keep 6m apart in a car park, unless they put in designated motorhome bays. They also quote a figure from May of 914 overnight stays in their Lawn carpark. This is a large carpark, and this equates to five vans per night throughout the busiest months of the year. Just another short sighted coucil, who can’t be bothered doing any research looking for the lazy way out.

The reality is that you would wake up to find a PCN stuck on the windscreen.

Many would not contest it. I wonder what would happen if the PCN was appealed? Presumably the traffic warden would have to prove all the occupants were asleep.

Difficult.

Exactly my point, it’s nonsense.

Why can't they put a 24hrs max limit per 7 days like other councils.
Reading recent posts where we supposedly can't use laybys as well as an increasing number of car parks it really shows they are out to get us!!!
I feel very sorry for the full timers who must feel persecuted.

They don’t seem to realise that the vast majority want to visit to spend money in the theatres, pubs, restaurants & shops. Even at £100 per visit the local economy is losing £100,000 at the figure quoted. First they cancelled the popular Christmas market which brought in millions and now this.

As you say, there is lots of room to put in dedicated motorhome bays.
The campsite in the article closes tomorrow for the 4 months winter season.

This is common ignorance from councils.
When writing to East Lothian council, they sent me a list of campsites in the area.
When I informed them that they were all closed from October till April they admitted not being fully aware of both this, and the fact that many of us head out in winter.

I ceased to be amazed by the level of ignorance and lack of interest/awareness by local councils of the area they're supposed to be providing civic services to many decades ago, Bill. 😕

Besides, nowadays a lot of them are reduced to "fire-fighting" (and generally losing the battle) on a whole range of much bigger social issues than where motor caravans can park. That's the least of their problems 🤷‍♀️

Not just councils Marie, some motorhome owners also.
Apparently if you reckon we should be catered for its because we have a sense of "entitlement".
Some arguing that it would cost too much to offer basic facilities even though these facilities are made available to everyone else.
Sorry but councils spend money providing facilities for many other groups who visit their local areas.
When doing so how much these groups contribute to their local economies is not the subject of due diligence or debate.
After all thats what they are there for, and thats what we have all paid our taxes for.
Or is that my sense of entitlement rearing its ugly head ;)

No, but getting councils to implement "sensible solutions" is rather like asking the mountain to come to Mohammed. Except there's usually no easy way Mohammed can get anywhere near the top of the damned mountain to explain what's happening at the bottom and because the mountain rarely listens anyway, even if you are extremely lucky and get a rare acknowledgement to your question. Even then the acknowledgement is more usually some sort of non-action passifier or side-stepping disclaimer. Me? Cynical?! Nah... 😉 🤷‍♀️

How about Councils just allow farmers to start pop up sites for campervans and motorhomes and not just tents. What possible harm could it do?

And if they do, why just 60 days per year, why not 365 - what the hell would it matter? Bit of extra income for farmers (and no they are not all rich!) maybe a bit of casual labour too. The only people who could possibly object would be the large campsite owners who charge a fortune.

I should be the minister for slashing red tape me.

Up here we have councils who are encouraging land owners to do exactly that Rob. Highland council actively encourages and supports those who do. Hence why nearly every month a new site pops up. We have places like Gairloch now with excellent facilities including grey and black waste, and even showers now. We have small land owners using bits of land for two or three vans, or as in Fort Augustus on Loch Ness larger facilities capable of taking up to 15 vans.
But my gripe is with larger towns like Scarborough who set things up to fail owing to lack of effective management, then when they do fail do what they always do, ban us from overnight stays.

Glenarm harbour park, free and stay as long as you like, castle across the path with food and walks plus some entertainment all year round.
Ulster welcomes those with money to spend. 😂

Trev, is it correct that there is a drinking water tap near the marina office and that the public toilets at the adjacent children's play park (across the footbridge) now incorporate a CDP?

Yes a tap not noticed the CDP but will take a look next time, a realy good place to stop, castle gardens now open with outside pizza hut and indoor cafe, some shops in the grounds now and open all year round with lots of events.
I took my kids every year when nippers to the fair.

Shame about 'The Lawns' stayed four or five times, superb Indian restaurant just across the road, and many other places to eat/drink/coffee cake also.
Very short sighted. On one hand I can understand that if the 'council's portfolio holder for inclusive economic growth', would love a fly on the wall look at that interview for that job, has been made aware of something that applies to campsites regarding distances between vehicles being slept in overnight. ( I need to declare that I do not have knowledge of restrictions or enforcement ) and may be held responsible (no idea how campsite rules apply here) if it goes horribly wrong and multiple vehicles catch fire and people perish, I, as 'council's portfolio holder for inclusive economic growth' would be looking to cover my arse or avoid the situation.

Of course the smug LF could have done some research which would have shown the truth.
