Air Suspension SAP Near Doncaster great customer service.

Just had Air suspension fitted by SAP at Adwick Le Street near Doncaster. What a great firm to deal with. Sorted all paperwork and fitted in a couple of weeks. It's great - it's also going to be handy if the ground isn't quite level when parking as either side inflates/deflates independently. It also lowers so the step isn't as high to climb into.

We had some sort of air suspension on th Adria Matrix, but it was not a patch on what we have now. Even with that at its highest setting the back end still bottomed out if there was a stunt steep hill.

As some of you know we just bought a new Mobilvetta- our dream van after seeing one in Belgium last year. The price was excellent. I'm not knocking the quality of fittings and extras which come with and main template is just what we want. I was however sickened when paperwork came back 3257 leaving just 243 k payload and that didn't include even a passenger. They had done the paper exercise to take it to 3650. So this meant total payload of 393k. Sounds a lot. Add 1 large passenger down to 293 k. Add awning 23 k and extra leisure battery 20 k. Now down to 250 k. This is supposed to be a 4 seater MH - add 3 more passengers and you would be over loaded without adding anything else.

We did think of rejecting as not fit for purpose, but as we really do like the Mobi we decided to bite the bullet and have air suspension fitted to enable us to take it to 3850. If I was a few years younger I would have gone down that route, but really couldn't cope with the stress and we want a long break in Spain.

There are a lot of 3.5t MHs being sold to 1, people who don't want/can't keep C1 on licence after age of 70 or 2, were born after 1996 and haven't got entitlement to C1 on their licence.

I suspect we will soon be hearing many stories from people who do not know that they are driving illegally.
To the sceptic who say it won't happen, it does - i for one wouldn't like to be the one who gets pulled up weighed on weigh bridge and told to remove goods until vehicle is correct weight plus points on licence and a hefty fine. Also how long will it be in event of accident, your insurance company won't pay out because vehicle was overweight.

Great to hear you are sorted. Adwick is where I went to school, I grew up about 3 miles away Addas Wick was the original name Wick being a dairy, Adda the local Chieftan ......

Re weights you were within half a mile of the local VOSA testing station on Bentley Moor Lane . Police garage too ( was also within a mile ) ...that may have closed. But the point is, it goes to show you are never far away from authority and that is not an area you want to be overweight or a defective vehicle

I'd missed that post - I'll copy my bit onto yours as well re payload if that's ok. I honestly think it's going to be a real concern as so many 3.5 t are being sold.

I don't really know what weight I could carry in my motorhome.
I suppose I should, but I do know it is designed to carry something heavy in the garage because I have a tag axle on a motorhome that is only 6.9m long.
Can you get air suspension on a tag axle vehicle?
The ride is very stable currently on corners, in fact the van rides better when I have a full water tank and a garage full of mainly 3 pushbikes, a tool box, an inflatable 3 man canoe, spare water container, an electric winch, windblocker awning and associated equipment (chairs, tables etc).

There should be quite a lot of info re your weight on the log book.... if not contact the manufacturers.... or ask someone else on here with the same van.

Can you get air suspension on a tag axle vehicle? - i dont know .. but after i spent a lot of time researching this its seems that you cannot lift the suspension on all vehicles to accommodate extra weight unless the axles are designed to carry that much.

if you can bear to read it all- there is a lot of info on my thread

We had air suspension on on of our previous vans as far as I have always been led to believe air suspension is only to give a better ride to assist the van suspension and not to catty extra weight.

Yes but it`s not cheap :scared:

If your van is on the ALKO chassis you`ll need to sit down before you open the link EU Vehicle Air Suspension then click #2

Fitting is on top of the price as well but it does include the compressor and dash mounted gauges / controls to inflate / deflate from the drivers seat.

They fitted mine ( ALKO single axle 2002-2006 ) and did a fantastic job which i`m very pleased with and would happily get it done again by them :hammer:

If you click #1 you`ll see a photo of what you get but the Tag Axle kit obviously contains 4 air bags.

We're at this junction with the purchase of our next mh. Nominally, at 3.5t but unless it's gonna be driven by filthy faeries with no luggage, it's going to useless.
Thanks for the info.

unless you see totally trustworthy data re the weights - empty and laden as it were... then on your test drive of a new MH i would recommend taking it to a weigh bridge and pay to have it weighed empty - i suspect that many many dealers wont tell you the truth about the safe payload of a van before a sale and after a sale its too late.

Strewth, strap back, strike a light, look how much it cost for a tag axle....... £2400 plus fitting :scared:

Lol. we're on a boogy campsite and the UK tag axle moves off every day and returns to it's ever deepening grooves on it's plot - totally in awe!!!

I will probably be downsizing in the next two or three years. Last Saturday I went with a friend to look at a motorhome he was interested in but also to cast my eyes over smaller vans while I was there.

My heart sunk when I saw them, I doubt there was anything under 3.5T with any decent payload.

I've just bought a new van dethleff tag and was giving this some thought.my currant van is an older dethleff tag and find that the front droops when parked up so I use a set of ramps I know it's not a good idea but it helps what I was wondering is if you use these airbags suspensions can you drop the tail end that wee bit lower than it is as a standard van without air. What I mean is can it be lowered from the height it leaves factory. Thanks

The airbags actually slightly raise the rear axle even when only slightly inflated so no you couldn't use them to drop the rear height below the standard factory level. Also it's not a good idea to have them fully deflated as it would be easy to forget and drive off potentially causing the airbag to puncture, expensive!!

VB Suspension make an all round system but I'm not sure whether it is available for a tag setup. I hesitate to think what it costs but you get the idea from here:
