Hi has anyone with air suspension had any problems just wondering about the reliability of these after market systems be good to get any info good or bad also recommendations for systems as I see several different offered on the net

I fitted Dunlop air suspension from Marcle leisure. Easy fit & has transformed my vehicle!

I was wondering if a set on the rear might cure the wallowing of my Mercedes based van the body does roll a bit on ordinary roads and I thought a pair of airbags at the rear might be in order, not too dear but stiffen it up a bit.

Was there something about the brake balance valve (can't be sure that's the right term?) on the Mercedes chassis ?

All to do with ride height?

Have you no anti roll bar on back end,if you do look for wear on bushes.

Mine was supplied and fitted by AS Air Suspension in Warrington, Cheshire Search Results

It`s on the ALKO chassis so was more expensive than the standard set up but in my opinion has been well worth it.

To a degree i can level up the van with it, both front to back and side to side.

It`s been on for 4 years now and i`ve only had 1 problem with it which happened when it was just over 1 year old.

The compressor was getting very noisy and it was taking longer to put air into the system, then it started making a hell of a racket and didn`t put any air in.

I rang them up and they asked me to bring it back in which i did the next day as i`m only 35 miles from them.

Without hesitation the owner ( Phil ) fitted a new compressor and it`s been fine ever since.

Most definitely  it will perform better and make everyone happy when it`s nice and stiff

There is no wear, It is new with less than 500 miles on it. The tyre pressures are critical to the ride though too hard and it wanders compared to my old Ford. There are anti roll bars but it is slightly narrower in wheelbase than most other vans. Must just be me but it is disconcerting at times.

Had air suspension on a Sprinter bassed motorhome, found it very good and reliable, had motorhome three and a half years and fifty thousend miles had no problems. Quite a good range of ride height adjustment, useful for getting on/off ferries and going over some of the rougher wild camping spots we've used. also good for leveling.

Body roll on Merc. Van commercials is a universally acknowledged trait. You could just regard it as taking flying lessons again! The Type 2 variation are even worse than Sprinter variations. I'm prone to nearly getting seasick dismounting say a kerb at an angle. I haven't bothered with airbags and just live with the problem, but I do make certain all shock absorbers are in top nick, if not then I replace. Airbags will reduce payload don't forget.
