Well ive just fitted some air suspension to the van .It only took us about an hour to fit .well pleased with it to .

air ride
just had a look on ebay, cheepest i saw was 295 without pump or guage. Any chance of suppliers name.Cheers mart.

Hello Jeff, hope your knee is doing well, must be if you can get under the van to fit the air suspension !
What does it help with ? does it stiffen the ride, and/or change the ride height ? Our Hymer is very soft and rolls around roundabouts, (a lot due to the side bodywork overhang from the rear wheels)

Air suspension
I've got a fiat based hymer b544 with air suspension fitted ,find it great ,take the body roll away but I've also fitted new rear shockers.remember the shocks reduce the body roll so make sure your shocks are ok or it would be a waste of time and money to fit air ride

I'm not so sure about shocks taking away body roll. Imagine going around a corner with no bumps in the road: the shock wouldn't have any work to do and you would certainly roll! Mind you, our Sprinter rear suspension is so hard the shocks seem to be entirely superfluous...

I found it certainly does stiffen the ride, roundabouts and those log sweeping exit bends from motorways, it's almost as if I'm rails now. It does also change the ride height, in my case about 80 mm difference at the rear but I think that varies depending on make/model and type of air suspension fitted. I have the Dunlop system.

Agree, I fitted the Dunlop system from Marcle Leisure a few weeks ago. Just come back from touring Scotland in our Autocruise, 4 ton vehicle with long overhang! It transforms the handling & rear height can adjusted. I'm running the pressure at around 45 psi at the moment, which seems good. Worth the £370! Although it took me almost a day to fit! :rolleyes2:

hi Paul knee is still giving me grief lol. as for the air suspension I only fitted as the back end was sitting down a bit .put new shocks on last year so I thought I'd lift the back end up a bit and it work put 30 psi raised it up about 3in looks much better now the van didn't roll very much on corners so can say they make any difference .oops sorry Paul how's your knee doing mate .

That is incorrect, in fact the term shock absorber is incorrect, they are dampers, without them the vehicle would be uncontrollable as the springs would just oscillate with riding on the road. Dampers kill this oscillation, springs do the work and the dampers control the springs.

When I drove the van home from Brownhills for the first time it was very bumpy ride, they had not checked the air in the suspension but when I read the instructions and put the correct amount of air in the ride was much better.
Is that ok Sherlock.

How Do
I fitted the Dunlop system several weeks ago. Contacted Dunlop direct but I was referred to Marcle. I ordered through them and the bellows and brackets came direct from Dunlop, the other parts followed on from Marcle. I thought this a bit strange. The bits from Marcle were spot on. The bellows from Dunlop were spot on, the brackets from Dunlop were absolutely useless. Despite advising which axle was fitted to my Transit at every communication the brackets required 2 major modifications each to fit and I had to drill the axle twice. I then had to fabricate a full width 10mm dural spacer for each side. The fitting took over a day instead of an hour. The score, Marcle 10, Dunlop 0. I advised Marcle for info only, not as a complaint and this seems to be common, Dunlop can,t fabricate a bracket.
I used a tyre pump permanently fitted, the prices for the pukka pumps are a waste of money. The pump does the job perfectly and if it does wear out I can replace it over 20 times before the recommended pumps become cost effective.
I fitted the system as my Autoroller was a bit bargelike inthe steering department, the large overhang was too low, the suspension was a bit soggy and as I intended to fit a scooter rack the problems would be made worse. Also We intend to head down to the Med next spring and I would have struggled to get on the ferry.
The results were excellent, well worth the considerable time taken with fabrication and the cost. The rear is lifted slightly as soon as the bellows are fitted, as you add pressure the lift increases with over 2 inches at the rear on normal running pressures (25-45). The ride is much improved and it steers like a different vehicle. Superb with the the scooter on the back.
If your MH is not all you desire suspension wise I can thoroughly recommend Air assistance, however if you are not reasonable with tools and are unlucky enough to to get a set of Dunlop brackets which don,t fit you,ll end up tearing your hair out.

Agreed: it's my age you know! But if you want to control roll, you fit an anti roll bar.....
