ADVICE NEEDED

Firstly i must apologise ,i know this site is for wild camping .But i need recomendations for a camp site.My wife has been going through chemo treatment and we havent been away for 12 months,for our first holiday away she wants to go to cornwall or devon.Preferably near a beach as she can`t walk far and we have 3 dogs.Just a small site we don`t need any amenities perhaps only a tap.I haven`t been on a site for 25years only wild camped.

There are a few sites dotted around Croyde Bay in North Devon just south of Woolacombe and you can also park for the day on the front at Woolacombe or along Atlantic View (both chargeable in season). We stayed here back end of last season for a week and also spent six or seven weeks at Twitchen house site above Woolacombe but that one is a long hike down to the beach.

In season there are a few smaller sites around Croyde bay quite close to the water.

If your reasonably mobile (I think ive mentioned this before) The Countryside mobility scheme hires out Trampers (all terrain mobility scooters) from Woolacombe and loads of other places. They are brilliant. Think the Landrover of mobility scooters. you can go off down the beach or up in the dunes and hills on those.

I use pitchup.com, as a search tool it is excellent for campsites. The reviews can be a bit ott simply because anywhere green must be wonderful to someone who for example lives in an inner city war zone, but there’s usually plenty of photos for each site

To date we‘ve only had two duff sites one pitch was far too sloping and the other site was full on arrival. The owner suggested we park among a load of tents but the filthy looks we were getting from the occupants suggested we weren’t welcome!
On both occasions we drove in and then shortly back out again

So as a result we've learnt never to pay in full when booking, if there is an option to pay just a deposit that gives us a lot of flexibility

The prices don’t seem to carry a markup or worse these increasingly common rip off booking fees from the likes of ticketmasters so loved by overpriced events like Quirky! but still I always cross check prices and availability on the camp sites own web site if they have one.

There’s a really nice, quiet basic site at Marazion in Cornwall. Walking distance of St Michaels Mount.

I'll second this one, fairly flat walk to beach and town which is good when you're not up to a lot of effort. I suspect St Michaels Mount will be a bit much for Chris's wife if recovering from treatment.

many won't be open yet but I'd recommend 'Dennis Cove" in Padstow, it's small with good facilities and a short walk into town and alongside the Camel trail so good for dogs ,not the cheapest but it is almost in town, choose with/without hookup and a Tesco on the way into Padstow.

give this site a try. Its very nice and we have stayed at it many times. Freshwater Beach not too far from Weymouth

That's a good suggestion, one of our favourite sites in Cornwall, great location and run by really good people

If you mean the Countryside mobility then yes its been a game changer for us. Michelle loves to walk and I cant. Now I can go with her on various trails. They are up here in North Yorkshire also and the Lake district. Some of the south west ones are a bit hairy but I love that. Great fun.

The caravan and motorhome club have a club site at Godrevy/Gwithian near St Ives. Looks a short walk to the fabulous beach there. Probably expensive....

Hope you find a site to suit you an Your Wife's needs I've given it some thought but can't think of any I live in Cornwall 15 yrs with van an never used a site here but one I've thought could be nice an one field from the SW coast path so good for the dogs
