ADAC finishing new uk members?

This is a story that does the rounds from time-to-time. I wonder if this is fake news generated by other parties with a vested interest ...

Here is the full post

"ADAC are no longer accepting memberships outside Germany from the end of this month!

I've just spoken with an advisor who told me this. It is probably the best in Europe, especially for cost and if you have a big vehicle.

I asked about getting membership again in the future. She said this was the last month they were accepting new members from outside Germany.

So join them now if you want to get membership."

Mr B.

There is nothing that I can find on the internet about this, and ADAC's own English web page has not changed.

I wonder if there's been a misunderstanding?

The more I consider this the more unlikely it seems.

Why would ADAC cut the size of the market to which they offer their services so drastically? The German domestic market set against the whole of Europe would result in a huge drop in market size. This would likely result in large premium increases to their domestic membership.

Remember that unlike our AA, RAC etc ADAC membership purchases an insurance policy of which breakdown assistance is but one part.

Note too that there's a contract in place. As a member unless you give notice that you wish to leave ADAC your membership is continuous and invoiced annually.

So even if this change should prove to be true, unless ADAC changes its contract terms, and they'd have to give notice of that, provided you pay each year on receipt of invoice existing cover would continue.

Not this storey again as Phil says. Cannot see that being correct, as an ex memeber great to deal with and an extensive English speaking team.

Ask them

Surely a simple 'phone call will solve the issue?
If I was at home I'd make the call.

I got a letter from ADAC this morning about them removing a service from non-German members, and I wonder if someone got the same letter and the actual meaning got lost in translation?

What ADAC are actually stopping doing is sending out paper copies of "Motorwelt", which I understand is a members magazine (I have never seen it, so not sure) in order to reduce costs, but there was nothing else in this letter. (and "Motorwelt" is available as an e-magazine I think it said IRRC)

I received the same letter and used Google Translate on my phone to check its content.

I agree with you, they are stopping sending the monthly magazine by post outside Germany. No problem for me 'cos I don't understand it anyway!

Letter

Yeah we translated letter too but me guessed meaning after wifey did a few lines LOL !! So previous stories of "no more members outside Germany" was merely no "paper magazines outside Germany" LOL 😂 !!
Down with scaremongers !!!! Maja

I cannot believe they are not sending the magazine out, the only reason I joined is because I don't get enough junk mail I don't understand :cool1:

I've been a member of ADAC for just one year finishing in November. I haven't signed a direct debit with them for following years how I'll I know when and how to pay for the second year?

Well I did try the google translate out and here is the result,

Some of which i did not expect.........

Dear Mr. in the Motorweltausgabe February 2017 we informed about the decision of the presidency and administrative council of the ADAC e V. the dispatch of the ADAC engine world ns foreign countries. The costs for delivery abroad are up to four times as high as in Germany. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the membership of the Membership Community. For this reason, we are not going to send the Germans abroad anymore. We offer our members in the Aus Aus der ADAC Motorwelt. You can register at www.adac.delepaper. If you are interested in the electronic issue (e-paper register, please keep the official e-paper of all the relevant information related to your membership, in addition, help protect the environment Your ADAC member service.

I understood that countries had a free postal exchange system in-country with no costs ie. he stamp I buy in Uk £ is Ok to send to DE.

Also a reminder for any one who wishes to leave ADAC (Not Germany;)!), they need 3 month notice to terminate subscriptions

There is no facility to pay by direct debit - your subscription is payable in euros in Germany ...

You will be sent an invoice in German prior to the renewal date. To settle it either phone and pay by card, or send the money via international transfer. This is expensive using your bank.

As an alternative earlier this year I renewed using TransferWise at a nominal cost - worth a look if you don't want the hassle of phoning:

Transferez de l'argent en ligne | Envoyez de l'argent a l'etranger avec TransferWise

Revolut

I paid direct with Revolut in Euro's.
It was for the exact amount charged by ADAC in Euro's (i.e no fee).

I had initially paid by credit card but my credit card company bounced the payment (probably because it was a foreign transaction without notification).

I mention this to point out there is no need to pay any more than the actual cost of the breakdown service; which is excellent value for money.

just re-newed with credit card. Got gold membership card and sticker for 10 years membership. :D

Update to this, yesterday I had the invoice from ADAC to pay by direct debit, translated by my phone with the other letter mentioned.
I knew my bank wouldn't accept this as a direct debit and I knew by paying through them it would cost me so I took the chance and phoned them through Skype. A lady replied in German but on saying hello she switched to English, perfect Engish I may add and took the following years payment from my English MasterCard so people saying they don't take English credit cards is not so.
The card is a zero card so I won't be paying fees for paying in Euros either so I'm a member for another year.
Thanks for the help guys ,much appreciated!!!
