Can anyone tell me the benefit for me to join up ?
We only go abroad 1-2 times a year for a few weeks,is it worth my time to join up? What's the benefits I'd get from it?how good is it and how does it work
Many thanks in advance
Gordon

Mine's packed ready for May.

It's just a discount card which gives lower rates during the off season months. Having a small van with no wet room, we use the card once every few days to go on a camp site and have a shower, do the laundry, stretch out a bit, use the wifi, etc. Off peak it enables you to save a bit of money on the camp site fees and also some places will accept it instead of taking your passport.

On a month away we use it about six or seven times which probably makes it pay for itself. We go away twice a year so that gives us a further saving.

I bought one for 2012 and spent ten months touring France and only used it once.

If you want to use sites, it will save you money, but as I was wilding and using Aires for water and waste it was of no benefit to me.

We stopped at a site we went to with the kids in the vendee full price was 34 euros we paid 16, in Italy most of the sostas were dearer than the Acsi sites and in France the Aires near the coast Normandy etc can be pay and for a couple of euros more when it's warm very nice to pay up and get a pool on a full facility site

one sites enough

Hi Gordon one site is enough to save the cost of the card, we stayed at the Prairies at Port Grimond nr St Tropez saved 18 euros a nite in may 2013 34e down to 16e The aire near by was 15e

Hi The laird,

We have used ours for the last three years off season mainly for our three months in Europe but direct from ACSI(a little cheaper ) and it turns up at the end of the year in the post and it will save you money.

Regards Snowbirds.

Worthwhile in Portugal and Spain but we found very little open late January to early March on the west side of France. Usually saves quite a bit in fees and agree you can pay for it on 1 night stopover.

Depends where your going and if you like sites or not. I found it useful in Switzerland and Austria where there are few Aires and sites can be expensive (especially in Switzerland).

In France though out of peak season you can usually find basic sites or municipals for under a tenner anyway except in places like the Med etc as already mentioned. I never bothered last year as we were only touring France and mainly down in the Pyrenees. Even in July and August there were basic sites down there for about €12 and even on the coast at St Jean du Luz in September sites were around €15 although we never stayed on any of them.

We apply in late Autumn and the card and associated guides are delivered before Christmas, and is valid for the full year following.

Thanks for reply John, the reason i ask is we intend leaving Sept/Oct and returning March/April next year, if card expires 31/12 it means we will have no card for the return trip,,,am i correct ,,John

ACSI cards

There's actually two cards. There's the discount card with the book, great for off season, not much more than the price of a paid aire. There's also the ID card, great to use instead of having to surrender your passport. I thoroughly recommend both.

Yes you are, but at £9.95 the renewal isn't much against the price of Hugo the Hymer and they will post to wherever you want!

Acsi.

Dont forget there is a growing number of sites in the uk that you can use Acsi and easily save what it costs to join.

Hi
You will find the book gives a basic write up in it but as i don't book any ahead it does help if you check the comments on the main ACSI web site as I have avoided some poor sites this way.
We found a couple of sites last year that gave us better rates for a longer stay that reduced even more if you stayed longer, when the site could have taken our 16 euros a night and we would have been none the wiser.
You will find sites change depending on the season and some of the pools are closed and you may want to avoid the two kinds of ankle-biter too but you will find lots of sites within a short distance of each other.

Snowbirds.

You will also find some sites listed on the website that aren't in the book and therefore do NOT give the discount. We found out the hard way...

As per Snowbirds' comment, we were on an Orbitur site in Portugal about to pay for our stay, when a Dutchman next to me showed me his Orbitur Family Pass - ten nights @ €9 per night!

I doubt very much that you will have a problem using the expired card for the months of Jan - March. I forgot to say that last year we did need a site and I got the ACSI rate just by asking for it and I didnt even have a card!

Agreed, and we also went to a Camping Cheque site having run out of cheques. I offered them the CC rate in cash and they took my arm off!
